Question:

Should the Government control our speed?

I read today that there is a new Lexus coming out in 2010. This vehicle will cost roughly 225k and will go 240mph. The speed limit is 70mph...

Do you think the government should make all car manufactures build cars that can not go faster than 80mph? And will anyone be able to actually push that car to its limits and see if it will go 240 on the interstate?

  1. yes

  2. Over-all, I think we have to control speed on most roads and highways. The most basic reason is that our national infrastucture could not possibly be changed to accomodate roads that allow a limitless speed.

I think it would be cool to have a new series of super-highways across the country that would allow for no limit on speed accept maybe in the lanes approching toward an exit.

  3. That does seem a little ridiculous for a car manufacturer to create a car that goes that fast and you'll most likely never be able to.  But they do this sometimes to make the car look more desirable because people like the idea of going fast.  And yes, there will be people out there who will test out how fast it will go no matter how dangerous it is.  And because of how dangerous that speed can be, maybe the government should be allowed to put a limit on how fast cars are allowed to go.

  4. On the highway, they probably should not. Germany's highway doesn't have a speed limit and they do fine. So yes someone will be able to in a country without a highway speed limit.

  5. I think they should be able to control our speed in places like neighborhoods and in towns where people walk or there are lots of children, but there are two lanes on most freeways for a reason, a slow lane and a fast lane. People should be responsible for their own actions, and if they can't control themselves and drive safely at a speed that they can control their vehicle at without the government telling them to, they shouldn't be driving period.
