The crowd the Indian Railways have in railway stations is very high. Indian people atleast 50% of them all over India travel in unreserved compartments standing or sitting on the sleeper tiers. Should we have to & fro 5 + 5 = 10 tracks all over India so that more trains could be introdeuced all over India so that the Indian people can travel comfortably without causing any inconvenience to others.

  1. Once the tracks are out of city limits it is very much possible, but once the tracks approach within city or town limits it will become very difficult to lay tracks due to space crunch especially in a densly populated city like Mumbai.

In order to circumvent this problem, when the tracks approach the cities or major towns they should be split into seperate corridors and the stations can be positioned in such a way that they lie in and about the boundary of the city.

So for example say there are 5 twin line corridors, people will have a choice of selecting either one of the five corridors depending on where they live in that city.

For a very small town or village, it wont make snese to pass 5 twin line corridors through them, instead 5 villages and towns should be selectd lying within say 20-25 kilometers of each other and the five corridors should pass individially through these towns/villages with seperate stations.

However, this may seem too good to be true, since it involves factors like Planning, Research, Feasability Study, Cost, Time, Political Will & last but not the least Govt. red tape.

Just to give you an example of what I mean...the KONKAN RAILWAY could have very well been a twin line corrridor (1up, 1dn) but it was laid down as a single line route...and i really dont know why...

  2. Interesting read.

    Multiple tracks can be planned.

Exclusive fast connecting trains operated, in addition to regular trains.

Even goods transport can also have a dedicated line.

It will beneficial for both the organisation and tavellers alike.

  3. of course. and every Indian should be able to afford comfortable travel in air conditioned classes. every indian should be able to walk into any station and get a reserved ticket instantly.

and the railways should introduce 10,000 new trains.

but who will bear the COST? dream on, buddy. progress is happening, but it cannot happen overnight. maybe by the time they get this work completed, indians will be accustomed to shuttling through airplanes like in the US. then trains will be obsolete. then what?

    there are no easy answers.

  4. Of course yes, but very difficult.
