Should the Islamic Countries Recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia?

Soon entire Europe and former soviet Republics (like my own country Kazakhstan) will recognize them because all Europe depends on Russia and the ***** America is nothing to do with that.

you do know that that whole world hasn't recognized them but Russia right? Russia is the only one that thinks their independent so it really wouldn't make a difference except give the Russians a little more leverage against the west....

your question assumes firstly that there are "islamic countries"  a term which has no legal definition under "islamic law" which is applicable to any country today

secondly, well its a moot point, being an "islamic country" attaches no legal significance to whether a country should be recognised or not

but your question is "Should"  they recognise it, notwithstanding the status of their claim to being "islamic" but rather "muslim" states

now, it would depend on their relationship with these provinces and the politics of that region as well as their claims on international law

- if they dont have a relationship with those two provinces- then there's no incentive to do so unless they want to have a stronger relationship with russia

- if they want to pursue and recognise the independence of other states like chechnya, bosnia/kosovo (well its been done), or any other area where muslims are struggling against oppression and have a regionally isolated area where their culture is very prominent- then by recognising these breakaway provinces, these countries can then have a stronger claim in treating breakaway states as being independent under international customary law-  

how does that work and what are its chances of success?  very low i must say

opinio juris would be something that binds the "islamic country" and no other, and not even the break away republic, and secondly, that country will be a sore thumb on the world platform as there needs to be a consensus on how to approach this question.

The history of the caucuses might warrant for such recognition, i dont know.

it would be great if an "islamic country" were to recognise and deal with say.... "xinxian" as an independent state on the strenght of its previous assertions with regards to these two states...
