Question:

Should the NHL mandate that if any Captain is suspended during the season, that he loses his C for the year?

Mainly for PRONGER, I ask! He is the only CAPTAIN that has a history of repetitive suspensions! The C should go to not only a leader, but one that respects the NHL, its players and the Refs! Do you agree?

  1. Yeah, as a captain you've gotta be responsible and play by the rules.

I agree, but let's make this a rule for the Alternate Captains as well. If they get suspended at any point no matter for how long they should also lose the A for the season.

Note if the Captain loses the C for the season he should also not be allowed to have the A as well.

Morally speaking give someone an A before they can get a C and only those who respect the NHL, the game, it's players and the refs should be merited.

    Agree?

  3. Yes, ALL THE WAY. As long as he gets it back [because everyone deserves a second chance...lol]

  4. Maurice Richard was suspended 4x as captain

Bobby Clarke was suspended twice as a captain

Ted Lindsey was suspended twice as a captain

Brian Sutter was suspended as a captain

Phil Esposito was suspended as a captain

    It happens

  5. C is gone.  Boom.  Enough said.

  6. Actually, there is a conspiracy into why Pronger wears the C. It's because the C stands for CUUNNTTTT, but only on Anaheim sweaters, it stands for Captain everywhere else. So no, let Pronger keep his C. WHAM

  7. BOOM!  I agree.

  8. Yes I totally agree. The wearer of the "C" has to set an example. You can't really do that sitting on your behind in the press box now can you.

  9. Nah...the rules are tight enough already

  10. No. for the simple fact that say Datsyuk was getting pummeled by Avery and Lidstrom came in an two handed Avery in Defense of Datsyuk, i would not want to see Lidstrom lose his captaincy.

  11. Good question. Yes, I think they should be stripped of the C for the remainder of the season and should have to earn it back.   The C is definately a privilege and an honor.

  12. no

  13. I don't think so, though I think an exception should be made for repeat offenders such as oh i dont know PRONGER!!!! I think your right about captains having to have respect, but if your teammate gets blindsided and your on the ice you'll go after them most likely, and if my some stupid chance you get suspended for that altercation you shouldn't be punished for defending a teammate, technically you were taking the responsibilities associated with wearing the C.

  14. Naw, as you know, I don't think the NHL should mandate it. If a team has a guy, wearing the 'C', who could likely be suspended... or who clearly didn't get the boys to maintain a level-headed mentality during the playoffs, then so be it. Good luck winning the Cup, team with a captain who's been suspended many, many times, (9 times?) including during the playoffs.

As I said, perhaps Pronger just needs to apply little pillows to his elbows with stick tape. They're a menace to society. Oh, and the stomping thing from this past season? The elbows told the foot to do it. Pronger can't be held responsible.

    ps ...BOOM.

  15. I do agree. Actually, what I think should happen to Pronger, is that he be demoted to equipment manager for the remainder of the season each time he is suspended.

  16. No I mean come on, just because he does a dumb thing doesn't mean he shows no leadership.

  17. Absolutely not.  The role of a captain should ALWAYS involve stepping up and defending your teammate, and that means occasionally dropping your mitts and risking a suspension if the fight goes the wrong way.  It means throwing the hardest hit you can, but accidentally hurting the guy.  A leader defends those who follow him.

  18. Amen. Now let's rip the 'C' off of his sorry @ss and throw it on someone else.

  19. Much as I carry a Chris Pronger grudge, I don't think so.  The league suspends a player for what he's done, and it doesn't really matter what his team position is.  Sometimes I would have expected Pronger to have been given longer suspensions, especially as he is a repeat offender, but that's another can of worms that will get us all in trouble!

I rather expect the team to consider the message they are sending when they appoint a captain who spends so much time in the box and on suspension.  Clearly the Ducks management want to advertise the team as a threatening lot who will stop at nothing, or they would be giving the badge to someone else.

Edit - deleted my comments on Schneider - when I looked at his PIM's, my point was, well, BOOM!  lol

  20. I disagree.  While the trend is away from physical, aggressive, rule breaking team captains, I still don't like the idea of the league trying to tell a team who their captain is.  Really, aside from some discussions with the officials. the remainder of the job is done off the ice.  Even if they stripped the letter, it would not change the job they do.  Aside from the honor of being the player who wears the letter, the only significant thing you are stripping the from is the honor of hoisting the Stanley Cup.  (Captains for the most part refuse to touch any of the other trophies anyway.)

I guess I prefer the old school captains and I even like Pronger.  If he ever landed in Philly, I would be a very happy Flyers fan.  Sometimes being a leader means doing the nasty things on the ice.  No one can argue that Lidstrom and Pronger are polar opposites in the way they go about their jobs as captain, but I don't think that makes Pronger any less of a leader.  The NHL can and should tell teams how they should do things, I just don't think this is one of them.
