An empire is a group of nations with one supreme ruler.

The UK contains four countries England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as the Crown Dependencies of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

So would the title Britannic Empress (or something similar) be more fitting for our Queen ???

  1. She can be anything she likes, as long as the rest of us do not have to pay for her

  2. She was, or rather, her father was.

George VI was Emperor of India until it became independent shortly before his death.

But there has been a de-emphasis of the power of the throne thoughout HRH's reign, largely at her doing.

I don't think she would be comfortable with the Empress moniker now.

  3. The royal family are outdated and should be put down, humanely, unlike the Romanoffs.

  4. She would need to establish an empire first.

  5. She is not a Supreme Ruler, she is a Constitutional Monarch.

"Empress" is the next rung up the hierarchy from Queen, and considering how long her Wikipedia résumé runs, it could be argued.

However, she has indicated that she would go quietly if she wasn't wanted - she is a Constitutional Monarch by invitation, where "Empress" has a connotation of coercion and conquest.

  6. The Empire no longer exists, so therefore she could not be referred to as an Empress. The British Empire became a group of countries called the Commonwealth. Some old colonial countries are still a part of the Commonwealth, but India, for instance, left long ago.

The Queen is known as Elizabeth The Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

King George VI, the Queen's father, was the last King-Emperor.

  7. She is,

one of her many titles is Empress Of India

  8. The word "Empire" comes from the Latin "imperium", a state that extends dominion over a population culturally and ethically different from the culture at the center of power.  Thus, an empire contrasts with a federation where a multi-ethnic state relies on mutual agreement among political entities retaining a high degree of autonomy.  Since the Commonwealth could now be considered a loose confederation of former English colonies, and Scotland, Ireland, and Northern Ireland are currently devolving, "Empress" no longer really fits Elizabeth II and the current non-absolutist definition of a constitutional monarchy.

  9. Ugh; northern IRELAND .. shukz  we don't want her ... she is just a "make believe"

  10. " Dont make me laugh , have you never watched star wars ??? "

  11. England has always had a Queen or King.

So it will not change...I understand what you are saying...but! it does not really fit  England.

Empress...somehow just doesn't quite sit right.

  12. Everything to do with England's Anglo-Saxon heritage is being dismantled piece by piece by the PC Brigade soon they might even try to abolish the monarchy.  She's better with the role she has at the moment though as a figurehead.

  13. Ah, the empress & supreme mega being from another dimension or maybe even over the rainbowland.... titles just confuse the issue. I can think of many much more fitting titles for queenie but I'll save the tatty sensibilities of the loyal and settle for C of England... xx
