Question:

Should the RWC-2011 go to Wellington?

With the Auckland snobs kicking up a fuss about spending tax-payers money to rebuild Eden Park, should the NZRU be done with it and grant the hosting of the games to the city of Wellington or even Christchurch?

I think all this fuss kicked up by the Auckland councils and Auckland public is in danger of backfiring on them. They don't want to spend the money on the stadium ... but I'm sure they'll moan their collective arses off when the finals are staged and Wellington and Christchurch reap the financial rewards. Time to teach Auckland and its people a lesson that they are NOT the be all and end all of New Zealand.

  1. Yes let Christchurch or Wellington host the finals, does Auckland not realise the benefits.  Look how much money the Lions tour generated into our country and the was just one rugby team imagine 16?

  2. Well certainly - if you think that either Wellington or Christchurch ratepayers would be happy having the $150million or so it might cost distributed amongst far fewer rate payers!

  3. That's right!

  4. No. There is a perfectly good stadium in North Harbour that they can use. Move it there instead. Its only 30 miles up the road in Albany

  5. You may have the stadium but, where are you going to house the people that fill these stadiums??

I hear what you're saying, since this may be the last chance of NZ ever hosting something of this magnitude you'd think collectivly they would roll out the whole shebang.

But thats Banksie isn't it, tabloid politics. Shame on you people who voted him back in, if only for that reason.

  6. How the h**l did Banks win the election???

    Auckland you muppets!!!!!!!!!!!

Auckland seems like the sensible place to host the final and build/upgrade a stadium, but there are too many morons at Auckland City Council.

I can't see a 65,000 seat stadium being built in Wellington or Christchurch. That is a ridiculous suggestion.

Lets just hope they can get their act together. I nearly choked on my dinner when I heard they re-elected John Wanks.

  7. Knock down that waste of money Telstraclear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau City that barely seats enough people anyways.  Have you seen the floor plan of that place?  It's actually shaped like a rugby ball, lol.  Anywho, it's handy to the motorway, handy to shopping and food areas, handy to motels......... I think it's a winner.  Plus the Court's down the road so the drunken hooligans that cause a ruckus after the games don't have far to walk :)

Ooooh or even better - bulldoze Rainbow's End down to the ground.  I mean geez, if they're not even committed to building a decent rollercoast after god knows how many years - and yet have the nerve to increase their entry prices year after year.  Well c'mon people.  The bigger picture.

I just knew the Eden Park upgrade was going to be one of the first things brought to the fore once I realised Auckland fools had voted John Banks back into the hot seat.  It's like going from bad to worse to bad again.

  8. I can't see it going to the Cake Tin or whatever the name of Lancater Park is now called, because of Auckland's population base.  Moving it to Albany is not an option as the new Albany mega centre will be a problem, plus have you ever tried driving on the Northern Motorway at rush hour.

This is typical Auckland though, just look at the Speedway, and that debate about the Waterfront stadium.

  9. yes gregor m and let them know there is life south of the bombays lol..... let me think about it and I'll get back to ya.......
