I mean, is it right to celebrate if things could be very bad on the states?

  3. Actually, the hurricane looks like it will be playing right into the GOP's hands.

The GOP was already planning a low-key convention to contrast what they view as Obama's "celebrity" and McCain's seriousness as a candidate.  The stage will be quite small and very simple.  Making the convention even more low-key to avoid looking like they're partying will play right into that message.

Additionally, both Louisiana and Mississippi have GOP governors.  Louisiana's governor is very popular in the GOP and was even touted as a potential VP pick.  All indications are that all the government authorities are pretty much overly-prepared this time around, and it's likely the handling of Gustav and his aftermath will go smoothly.

It could be quite a boon for Republicans to have news coverage switching back and forth between their convention and GOP elected officials handling a major crisis smoothly and efficiently.

By the way, there is a special section of convention links on http://www.USAMediaGuide.com.  It has links to the official convention site, the protest site, local media coverage, blogs reporting from the convention, places to watch it live online and more.

There is also a special section of links for Hurricane Gustav.  It has links to local media coverage from New Orleans, the National Hurricane Center, the storm's projected path, live streaming webcams in the affected areas, preparation guides, and more.
