South African Airlines has requested a bail out amount of R5.7 billion from the South African government which will obviously be funded by taxpayers monies, do you believe this to be fair should such a disbursement be granted and do you have any opinions on this issue?

  1. SAA should be sold off due to it's inabilities to run a financially sound airline. SAA's service sucks, they use to be the best in the world but since BEE got hold of them they, like many other state funded and semi government institutions went down the drain!

Shame on you SAA. You don't deserve a cent and should be closed!

  2. Yes, did Swiss Air not also go bust a few years ago and then the Swiss government had to help? I think they should just close SAA down. Emirates, BA, Virgin etc. can do the job just as well. Why waste R 5.7 billion?

  3. Its just crazy , I dont know much about business , But SAA is a Business right?

So that means if i own a business and things are going downhill , I can ask the government to bail me out at the expense of the general public?

So in essence we pay to keep them afloat , yet also pay for air tickets , thats like asking me to pay for my car and then also pay everytime i want to drive it...

Why didnt they bail out Nationwide?

So ya i think its unfair , why should we pay for the f-ups of others?

    ****

Yeah Bull , your edit is spot on with regars to the poor ,subsidising the rich , I have only flown domestically once in my life so far , so why should i subsidise them ,it is not a service that I use , rather fix the roads that i drive on daily or sort out crime , i dont mind my tax money being used for that , instead of a service i do not use.

  4. I think that SAA should be privatized.  There is no reason that the taxpayer should suffer for their stupidity.

  5. No the ANC members that have stolen all of the money should.

  6. It looks like every thing that the Government touched after the

fall of apartheid ended in the red.

This is not only about S.A.A. There were some good men and women in management but affirmative action replaced them  with people who were political smart but their business know how was questionable. That is the reason S.A .A is in a mess. The taxpayers money is the politic ans money to spend the way they want it because they were oppressed for so long and forgetting their brothers and sisters in the streets who fought and died in the same battle .
