Should the TTC be declared an essential service?

im doing a debate about it & my group thinks that it should NOT be an essential service.

any thought or comment would be highly appreciated

  1. I have problems with employees of the TTC being ranked among police, firefighters, and other life-saving/life-dependant services. The TTC is highly needed, very important to infastructure, but not required to maintain order and/or save lives in Toronto. There are alternatives to the TTC, they just aren't desirable. That's the whole point of a strike; inconvenient the consumer to put pressure on the employer.


  2. No they should not be declared an essential service because that would mean that they would get even higher wages than their already huge paycheck. This would result in both higher taxes and higher fares. If the TTC ends up going on a strike again just pass another get-back-to-work bill. If they don't obey the order then just do what Reagan did in 1981 use it as an excuse to fire them all and replace them with people who ask for a reasonable wage and actually do their jobs effectively.
