Should the UK chuck out the royalty?

Do we (UK) need a royal family in this day and age? Are they of any use, or are they just a rich family who leech off our economy?

I am against freeloading, and I am against the handing down of power. Granted, we now have a government which runs the country, and that's great. At the same time, it makes the royal family even more redundant and pointless.

Or should I just move to France instead?

The royal family is iconic to the recent history of Britain. The Queen is sort of symbolic to World War II--for an 80 year old, the queen means,a royal (considering Britain was barely a constitucional monarchy then) supporting the Brittish.

2ndly, it's the surviving heir of past Royalty.

3rdly, The Royal Family creats a link between other countries' history.

4th: Creates employment: Photo publishing. magazines. Turism,

5th: There are things the Queen does that most people don't even feel like doing.

What is so wrong with the royal family? At least they represent something magical and wonderful. I fail to see how vapid idiots like "Brangelina" are worshipped and probably make more per year than the Queen does and they don't have any real value, yet somehow they are "acceptable" and the monarchy isn't.. The queen and her family represent something transcendent.

By the way, are you aware the royal family costs each person in the UK less than a pound a year?

Move to France...

Britain already gave up the monarchy once .. I don't think you realise what the Royals do for your nation ...

I am an Aussie who vote for AU to become a republic .. only because we are another nation on another hemisphere... so I don't think the Monarchy is as valid as it is to you. IF i were British .. I think I would be a Monarchist.. there are far far greater freeloaders on the British economy  living in council estates... (I know I watch THE BILL and the Catherine Tate Show ;)    )

The monarchy brings a lot of $$$ into your country .. I'd stand at Heathrow if I were you and ask all the O/S tourists if they are going to see Buckingham Palace... Consider then the employment that is involved in the tourist industry ..The people guarding the Royals .. ALL EARNING MONEY AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE ECONOMY .. all the tabloid magazines and news papers .. Lots of money there...

take out the Royals and a lot of people would say WHAT ELSE DOES BRITAIN HAVE ??

You ever heard of Democracy? 80% of us want our ancestors' deeds and oaths honoured and respected. Who are you to say everyone is wrong and you're right?

They bring in millions from tourism. They represent our history, and our families. Every British name is reflected in the Monarchy.

Basically, no, that would be an evil, tyrannous thing to do. Yes, move to France if you don't like it.
