  1. this is pretty redundant .  whether we like or not, UK is in ERP and EU!.  geography / socio-economic stage of development / politics / geopolitics  have a bearing on UK's position vis-a-vis ERP / EU.

lets not be fuzzyfuzzy abt commonwealth. its a dead thingy.

what matters most is trade, econ devt, profitability and $$$$.

UK is a giant in business and being in EU has enable it to maintain that lead. so lets not get carried away.

there's more to be gain being in EU than outside.  just 'cos there r too many polish / bulgarians hanging around picadilly doesnt justify taking UK out of EU

we shld work towards achieving what is best in long term and now.  all the signs say:  STAY IN

  2. It could but it would then suffer major economic problems:

    - most commonwealth countries have a different development level which restricts free trade without further changes in the British economy

    - the transportation costs would increase prices and decrease the purchasing power in Britain.

  3. Great question ; however, the fact is that, today, It's not an either/if situation. Most if not all of the former Commonwealth countries are in the World Trade Organization; the only thing stopping them from trading with the UK is lack of desire to do so. Although it's true that the UK is now more heavily embedded in EU trade, this is because the similar development level of the European countries allows the EU to lower trade barriers without a "race to the bottom" in labour protection and regulation.

It there is such a thing as 'best of both worlds,' the UK may be close.

  4. One world Goverment. mISSION iMPOSSIBLE
