Should the US Postal Service go to a 5 day delivery week, M-F, in order to save fuel and money?

I think the same amount of mail will be delivered there just would be no mail on saturday. Companies and people could easily adjust.

  1. Instead of five day work weeks, they should drop down to four day work weeks. That's if they really want to save.

  2. The old saying is, the mail must go through, I get you point.

  3. Even if we weren't in a crisis mode trying to save fuel and money, reducing the Postal Service to a 4-day work week would allow conservation of fuel and generate significant savings. The postal union would fight it, of course....at least until it comes to a point of crisis where employees can't afford to drive to work.

The USPS could also reduce costs by abolishing mail delivery in all areas of concentrated population and opening up storefront "mail centers" where people in a neighborhood could have post office boxes. As more and more vacant buildings become available, these neighborhood storefront locations could replace all postal delivery in a six-block area, offering post office boxes, stamp vending machines, and drop off services for outgoing mail.

Home-to-home delivery was a great idea when America was young and less congested. Now, perhaps we should rethink the USPS and model it after FedEx or UPS. In fact, since the USPS is a commercially-operated venture, why couldn't it merge with FedEx and UPS to provide national mail service?  -RKO-  07/05/08

  4. No, what should happen is we should start drilling and refining our own oil and resources as well as building nuclear plants so that we are not dependent on the middle east despots for our energy and then we can continue to enjoy our place as the best nation to ever exist on this planet.

  5. I don't think 2 days off in a row would be good. Maybe Wednesday & Sunday off.

  6. Not only the postal service but everyone people and companies.

  7. Yes, sounds like a good plan. I sure don't need to get mail delivery on Saturday. I don't pay any bills that day anyway.

  8. That certainly does make good sense, never thought about it, but yes, it sure does make sense. Why not email the Inspector General in your state and tell them that, matter of fact I will email mine too. Great Idea.
