Should the US adopt the Ferengi "Rules of Aquisition"? The Rules appear to be quite compatible with American capitalism.

  1. Why are you posting on the UK/Ireland site?

  2. From what I've seen of the US, they created teh rules of aquisition.

  3. I think the whole idea for the Ferengi Alliance *did* actually come from earlier U.S. history -- the robber barons, little worker protection, etc.  Looking back to original Trekdom, it seems to be filled with a bunch of little allegories -- they just tried to carry that on a bit in later incarnations.  By the end of the timeline that we've seen, they're also starting to change a bit, right?  Darn the Federation's influence. . . .

I disagree with your premise that the RoA could actually work in modern American capitalism.  It's been toned down far too much for that ever to work.  We founded labor unions a long time ago, and they're rather entrenched in culture and politics by now.  Sure, we're never really convinced that big corporations aren't actually running the government and its silly notion of worker protection being some kind of a right. . . but we at least like to think the government is a separate entity.  Or is it owned by the labor unions?  Nah, I don't think it'd work.  We're too used to this watered-down, regulated capitalism.

  4. What are the rules?

  5. Sure, they couldn't be worse than what we are doing now.
