  1. NO, NO and NO.  Is this d**k Cheney?

EDIT: Golden, I am very concerned about it.  I am old enough to remember growing up under the threat of nuclear war with Russia (the Cold War).  And, I am part of a military family, so I have even more at stake.  I joked about Cheney as a way of lightly saying I knew he was recommending we "intervene" in the situation.

  2. I think the US needs to quit meddling in the affairs of other countries. It often has nothing to do with them...like right now

  3. NO! Which means Bush probably will!

  4. We don't have the man power. I also don't want our troops to die. This would escalate to far and we would need the assistance of our allies.

  5. Ok I think they should not intervene. If they intervene the Russians will strike back with such force and they have many many allies in Europe and Asia that I don't think we will put up much of a fight against all that force. I mean we can fight for a while but that makes even more war for us and more deaths and higher prices and why don't we just leave the argument between them?

  6. No, the prospect of a US intervention makes me very uncomfortable. If Russia refuses to cease-fire and the US has to intervene it could cause a war between the US and Russia. Now this is highly unlikely, but if it does happen, China will back Russia. Then the UK will have to choose sides (probably USA), which can cause a bona fide world war.

Now this is admittingly unlikely..as WWIII will probably happen if/when Israel is invaded, not Georgia. But NATO has to handle this very, very diplomatically. Because worst case scenario:

USA, UK, Isreal, Georgia, South Korea, Japan, most of Western Europe

    VS

China, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea,

In my humble and paranoid opinion...

  7. Absolutely NOT. Americans seem to think their motives are always pure - and maybe that no-one else's are- but really they should mind their own business. If America invaded Mexico for some reason, would  you expect it to be OK for Russia to intervene ?

  8. Oh, Christ no...don't we have our fingers and the taxpayers' wallets buried in enough grubby little pies around the world already?

  9. As a Brit I say that the USA has no RIGHT to interfere or involve itself in the affairs of other lands.

It invented a convention called the Munro Doctrine which asserted that no country outside America had a right to involve itself in the American continent.

By the same token, there is a doctrine of equivalence which prohibits the US from interfering in European matters.

  10. whether they should or not (which i believe they shouldnt but they will) is not the question or problem...america is about to hit depression #2 if not already hit, banks are foreclosing, homes are foreclosing, businesses are going bankrupt...oh yeah we're not in a recession according to the media (which most of the ignorant bunch here listens to and gets their facts from) but u know we are heading south...at a rapid pace too...but u know what as wrong as it sounds...i hope this **** goes all to h**l, i hope that we hit the hardest depression ever, i hope that its soo bad that the ultimate rich people are brought down to their knees and you know why...in the midst of **** and when the rulers who ****** this **** up are brought down, a hero usually arises and saves us all, im hoping for that hero...and no not a war hero...someone with brains, someone who cares about equality for ALL, someone who aims for the middle on both sides, someone who is smart enough to care and do their homework...thats all...but up until then...HERE WE GO PEOPLE, we are on the downslope of this rollercoaster...so get ready to put your hands up and scream....its going to be an awesome ride :)

  11. I say DEFCON 1!

After the war, we can start Bartertown.

  12. Tracey above could make a profit from the conflict, in her profession there is great demand from soldiers on the front line.

  13. This is a superb question and in short, no.  The issues b/wn North and South Ossetia go way back to to when the USSR was around.  The Southern Ossesians never particularly cared to be a territory under Georgian control, it's deeply routed in history.  There was always hostility between the Southern Osessians and the Georgians.  The Southern Osessions spoke Russian and even held Russian papers even when Georgia was a Republic of the USSR.  Now that Georgia is an independent nation, the Southern Ottesians wish to reunite with the Northerns and have a unified territory that is entirely under the authority of Russia and exclude Georgia altogether.

This is the sort of historical turf battle that the US should not involve itself in unless compelled to intervene by the UN Sec. Council.  Personally, I think it would be a very, very poor decision as the US Military is exhausted and really needs a chance to rest in the interest of National security.  Frankly the whole Georgia vs. Russia thing isn't a matter of International Security, when compared to the imminent threat that Iran poses.

    ********

ADDENDUM TO REPORT:  i certainly wasn't insinuating that the author had a vested interest in a given military intervetion, I simply suggested what I interpret the underlying history to be.

I apologise if I've caused offence, as I was simply attempting to answer the question to the best of my ability.  I'll gladly retract my assertion at your request; I was merely trying to shed some light on the historical background of this matter..

  14. Since WWII, the U.S. only bombs brown people.

  15. Your country has enough on its plate at the moment than to get involved with da Russians

  16. heck no, we dont need to and let them work it out on their own. Also no refugees

  17.   No, The US has been thinned out, and I'm sure our military personnell

and thier families are tired, and tired of loosing thier familiy members to war, and watching those lives cut short, over wars that could have been taken care of by diplomatic resolve.

  18. No. This is a conflict that will only affect Russians, Georgians, and South Ossetians. Unless one of them explicitly asks for help from another country, they shouldn't get it.

  19. No, the US is having enough problems as it is. Don't see any reason why we need to involve ourselves in a conflict that has nothing to do with us.

  20. Really, what is to be gained by that?

I think the US needs to focus more on domestic affairs and less on international affairs.

  21. Yes, just as we should intervene for Tibet. Because it's the right thing to do.
