Should the US send troops to Georgia?

Should we send troops to end this disruption? We want to stop the spread of communism right? Wouldn't this be a good way to teach the Russians to behave? I also think another war would be a great boost for our sorry economy.

  1. No we shouldn't send troops there. We are already stretched too thin in Afghanistan and Iraq we can afford to send more troops to another area. Why should we be the nation that everyone comes to when they are in trouble. Why can't the UK, France etc. supply troops to quell the situation. I thought that was what the UN was for. Stop the spread of Communism? Russia is no longer Communist.

  2. Why should we get involved in their fight?  Its between Russia and Georgia which used to be part of the USSR.  Let them fight it out amongst themselves.

We should stop being Daddy for the entire world.  Everytime anything happens they come running to us for help and money.  If we don't help they cry about it.  If we do help they cry about that.  90% of them would never come help us though.

  3. I think that US shouldn't get involved.  I don't think that the US has anything to "teach" the Russians.  I don't think they would end any disruption but only cause more.  The US should fix their own problems first and stay out of others.

  4. There is a few problems with your question and logic.  First the communist have been defeated and those few remaining are in total collapse or given it up in all except name like China.

Secondly the assumption that a war would create more jobs and economic boost.  Short of a World War 3 the production you speak of would not happen.  The USA after two World Wars decided instead of the risk of losing a war, and the great affliction of turning your whole economy into war production a better strategy was to build and maintain a "superpower" military which although expensive year to year would be a bargain in the end.  The risk of war lowered and when and if a war takes places the material used is already there and can be replaced at one of many suppliers.  The tanks are there and the people who refurbish old ones into brand new ones do so everyday while new ones can be built when needed and so on.

As far as Georgia it may turn into a war of wills if it spills beyond South Ossetia.

  5. Yes!

United States should defend Georgia!!! Otherwise russians might invade to Florida where I live!!!

  6. You do realize the Soviet Union fell in 1991 right?  This is in Russia's back yard, not ours.  We should not fight a war over a ex soviet state of Georgia, especially on Russias terms.  Russia has 40,000 tanks and is geared for a ground war.  If we were to fight a war we would do it in the air and bomb the c**p out of them with gunships.

Also let us not forget the ability of Russia aka the second largest nuclear arsenal after us.  They have enough tatical nuclear weapons to give our armed forces a bad day and I do not think we should lose 2 carrier fleets fighting Russia.

Also let us clarify the economics of war.  It costs money, a lot of money.  We cannot balance our own budget, less increase military spending exponentially.  War means death (untold economic cost from loss of labor.)  War means destruction (untold amount of manufactured goods that we will never reclaim.) War means hardship on the general population.

Factories need to be regeared to make war materials, that means less consumer goods.  During the cold war, russia had a sorry policy of manufacturing consumer goods which meant the people had a relatively poor standard of living.

To recap, the American people and its economy will actually DECLINE from war.  We would lose our high standard of living from shortages implicated during fighting.  Our factories and raw materials would be switched to producing general war material.  Less but not lease, we would be confronted with our inability to pay.  Generally meaning inflation because of a lack of nations willing to pick up our tab due to our escalation of fighting Russia.

  7. No we should not - enough with these d**n wars and let them blow themselves up.  Bring our troops home back to US soil.

  8. We all ready have a number of bases in Georgia, FT, Benning, Ft Stewart are just 2.

  9. If the US wanted to stop communism GWB would be doing something about it while vacationing in China right now. We cant control every country and we cant tell them how to run there country even though we disagree with it.

Americans wouldnt like that if another country came and told us to ditch democracy..(even though democracy kicks ***) We cant..

war does NOT boost our economy ..R u kidding me? No lets send our troops who returned from iraq out to russia..Lets give our troops a break..And our country is in enough debt

  10. European problem. Let the EU deal with it.

  11. The Russians haven't been communists for quite a while now.

Anyway, a U.N dispatch of blue berets might be an idea if it continues on for too long and/or escalates further. But not specifically U.S troops.

  12. Welcome to the 21st century, Russia is not a 'communist' country, I was not aware we had any troops left to send anywhere, even home.

  13. Aren't we sticking our noses in enough people's business already.

  14. I have to agree exactly with trigunmarksman plus we need to fix Dafur or somewhere else instead of running to Europe (or Asia actually) every time. We need to finish up in Iraq and concentrate in Afghanistan anyway hello?

I have nothing against Russians or Georgians, worked with both groups in Bosnia, but this someting they can handle. And remember Chenchyna? The Russian army isn't at 1984 levels.

Let the Europeans who 'hate' Bush sooo much help first then...we can solve this one with dipolmacy and Georgia isn't as innocent as they seem also.

I expect to see at least 20 post a day about this so I guess I might as well save this answer lol.

  15. mind your own business ,to d**n trigger happy you yanks
