Question:

Should the USA back out of the UN?

Why is it that the UN seem not to care much about America??? We pay bout 80% of the funds for the UN and we seem to get almost nothing out of it except for the occasional ad on television that asks us to DONATE EVEN MORE! After hurricane Katrina we recieved minimal help from the UN but if a child in Venesuala sneezes they throw them 30 million dollars. It seems as if we are becoming to be the ***** in the world and not many Americans seem to notice. America is funding organisations such as Adopt-a-Minefield and UNICEF and I dont think that we have benifited from either of these organizations yet! Now should the US back out of the UN and sace our Government hundreds of billions of dollars PER YEAR and RAISE THE ECONOMY? Or should we continue to be pushed around by the other countries and not benifit our society at all.

Thank you to all answering and not saying something obnoxious about the war.

  1. It depends if the offer good money$$$$$

  2. YES YES YES YES.

move to the middle east. perfect place  for enlightenment.

  3. I think we should stay in the UN.

BUT, I think we should pay a fairer share of their budget (about 10-15%) and have a lot more control over how things are done.

We need to all give up hope of the UN ever being a reliable military force, it just isn't in the cards. Individual nations (like US, UK, Australia, etc) and military alliances (NATO) will do that much better, with less corruption and abuse, than the UN ever will.

The WTO is much better at economic pressure and etc than the UN.

The UN is an international debate club. It has some value in that.

The UN does some good humanitarian work (UNICEF, WHO, etc.) and is very good for that, though the corruption level is sometimes high.

We also need to put some limits and constraints on the diplomatic immunity privileges extended to UN staff. Basically, it should only apply to "the" diplomat. In other words, you get one, and only one, diplomatically immune individual at the UN.

  4. The child in Venezuala gets that money because he needs it. America can afford to look after it's own. Are you trying to tell me that saving lives is a bad thing?

Why does America need to benefit from this? Minefields should be cleared. America and other wealthy nations can provide resources to do this without damaging their economy. The people the UN help need help more dearly than Americans.

The UN was founded to prevent war and help people. It's not like only Americans matter. We are all human beings.
