Should the USA launch a surprise armoured advance on Volgograd and get it over with?

I am sure that the force could be supplied by air. The objective would be to rename the city after the great Georgian politician Joseph Stalin.

It used to be called Stalingrad, but the evil Soviets under Khrushchev renamed it Volgograd. Victory before winter!

  1. The plan might fail, unless the Romanians and Hungarians agree to send troops to guard our flanks.

(edit: I'm not sure anyone else caught the historical reference in your question. I though the point of the question was that attacking Russia would be a disaster by referring to what happened to the last Army that tried it. Or maybe I read too much into your question.)

  2. you must kill yourself for asking such STUPID question! Idiot, nothing can be added.

  3. Why would we fight a war on Russia's terms, their army is built for armored warfare.  They currently have over 30-40 thousand "tanks".  Any warfare on the ground would favor Russia, especially the proximity to their supply bases.

The United States military favors large scale air operations, air superiority, and close fire support.  The United States navy would be vulnerable to Russian missiles in that area and would result in high losses.  Let us not forget the implications of nuclear warfare.

  4. To get it over with?. Are you joking my friend?. The US can only start wars but unable to finish any of them. First was Vietnam. And now, Iraq and Afghanistan. It's six years now and the Iraq War is far from over. The same is true in Afghanistan, with the Taliban much stronger now than before.

And how would you create the force required for your operation?. No more soldiers to send, unless you institute a mandatory draft. And where to take the trillion dollars needed for your new war?. Borrow money again from China?. The US is in a huge debt right now, and it's just a matter of time when you feel the sting of that. And then you complain that the economy has gotten worse?.

On the lighter side though, it appears that your question is loaded with a historical reference of an event in WWII (Herman Goering's proposal that led to Von Paulus' Sixth Army being encircled at Stalingrad) . Or am I reading too deep at your question?. Maybe I had been reading too much history.

  5. No way! We just need to mind our own business and take care of problems at home. We cant be the world's daddy anymore when we cant even take care of our own properly.

Not to mention we are spread pretty thin in Iraq and we are thinking about attacking Iran. We cant afford to get into another battle physically or financially. Iraq has cost us so much money that people cant even understand all the zeros that follow that dollar amount.

We would be spread to thin then one of our enemies could attack us at home.

  6. LOL!

Advance with what forces, from where?  And supplying an armored force of sufficient size for your proposed operation by air is highly doubtful, as well.

    Thanks for the laugh!

  7. The USA would have to do it with air and long range missiles. Preferably from a one of our submarines, boomer class, if you get my drift.
