  1. If you have both Olympics in the same year than its like having the Olympics every 4 years instead every 2 years.

  2. The decision was made in 1986 by the IOC to separate the two events from the single year. Lillehammer 1994 (Norway) was the first Winter Olympics in the "new schedule" (following Alberta 1992).

The main benefit of the split is having a major event to concentrate on organizing, rather than two major events held in the single year. The four year gap between Olympic events was also difficult to retain interest of people (including IOC staff).

While there have been very few, it would also benefited athletes who compete at both the Winter and the Summer Olympic games (more time to concentrate on their chosen sports).

So, no I do not believe the Winter games should be held in the same year as the Summer games.

  3. Should do winter every 2 that solves both problems. They aren't nearly as large as the summer games. I realize that the costs of building things such as bob-sled and luge tracks, is expensive and time consuming. But maybe they can pick the host countries farther ahead down the road so they have time to create facilities. There has to be a limit to the places one can effectively host a 'winter' games... basically you need winter. some places on this earth don't get 'winter' as in snow-and-ice 'winter'. I think it's doable every 2 years, and they did it once before.

  4. Nah....It's better for the fans, better for TV ratings....better all around.  It was especially fun back in 1992 in Albertville France,  when we all knew that we'd we watching pretty much the same people compete two years later in Lillehammer, Norway.

Every two years for some kind of Olympic games is perfect for me.

  5. I like it better this way.

When they were held in the same year, the Winter games didn't receive as much attention as they do now.

Also, I like having the Olympics every 2 years.  It seemed like it took forever to see the Olympics again when we had to wait 4 years.

  6. No, because with the way that it currently is, it gives people a chance to see Olympic Games every 2 years, instead of having to wait 4 years.
