  1. Everyone is seeming to forget that he passed one of the Yankees all time greats. The BABE. So i think out of respect to Babe Ruth you would not sign him, especially knowing that there is a possibility that the record he broke was not legit. And i dont think they need him he had what 20something homeruns last year, Giambi has that now practically so the yanks need to go out and trade for Nady or Bay that can PLAY defense and hit.

  2. sure why not... never have too many old guys to DL

  3. No.

    1. They have like 4 players that really should not be playing defense with Damon, Giambi, Matsui and Posada. They don't need another DH.

    2. The Yankees have a ton of lefty bats. They need right handed bats seeing A-Rod is the only power threat from that side. Last time I checked, steroids doesn't make you ambidextrous.

  4. No they should not it would be too big of a distraction

  5. Yes! He can hit home runs! Plain and Simple! 314ft down the line! Thats All Ima Say! Im praying for ya Barry!

  6. YES - THS WAY HE AND GIAMBI CAN SAVE SOME MONEY AND SHARE A NEEDLE.  THEY SHOULD BRING BACK CLEMENS TOO.

  7. he would be perfect with the yanks!!

    they should

  8. As of this morning it sounds more like ESPN need something to fill time...Bonds was one of many guys on a list put together by the asst. GMs for "consideration."

As crazy as it sounds, though, Bonds....even if he's in 80% of last year's shape....could give the Yanks something they haven't had for a long time...A "put down the cellphone and hot-dog and watch every pitch" kind of bat...If there's one team that has plenty of room in their basement for more baggage, it's New York...

It would also give the other fans something to REALLY hate, and that could really bring a team of older, "set in their ways" veterans together real fast.

I wouldn't want Bonds on my team (Dodgers) but I admit that I wouldn't mind seeing a Bonds vs. Beckett at-bat in October for the pennant...

  9. Even THAT town isn't big enough to house that circus.

  10. if the yankees were really that desperate for wins, then yes. its a rational decision but from an ethical point of view, they shouldn't. if they do, i'll understand but if they don't i'll respect them more

  11. they definitely shouldn't but they probably will.  like other say, they don't need another old DH.  also he has

    TONS OF BAGGAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. No

    Trust me

  13. No one should.  Let the cheater go play golf with OJ

  14. yes. he is  still innoncent . let him play . his carrer is far from over . politicians , are in judgement . of course they never ever missrepresent facts .

  15. No, they have plenty of depth with Jason Giambi at first. And in the outfield, either Matsui, Damon, Cabrera, or Abreu. The Yankees just signed a decent power hitter in Richie Sexson, I don't see where Bonds would fit in. Plus, with Jorge Posada not able to throw with the shoulder injury and either going to be the DH or first baseman, the Yankees need another catcher, like Johnny Estrada who was just designated for assignment yesterday for I guess to much depth at catcher for the Washington Nationals. Estrada used to be the guy every team who needed a catcher would want. They should focus on getting what they need to win for the future as well as now, Barry Bonds isn't going to be a franchise player their and isn't going to bring the Yankees through to another era. No one is going to take first base from Giambi, but if needed Richie Sexson is a first baseman. At the designated hitters spot, You either have Damon, Matsui when he comes back, or Richie Sexson. As for Barry Bond's and his controversies, that's not for me to decide on whether he's innocent or not. It never will be. My opinion will never be taken into consideration and I feel he is innocent until proven guilty, just like all of us humans.

Most likely he's not coming now, the Yankees just acquired outfielder Xavier Nady and Damasco Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Right Field prospect right-field prospect Jose Tabata, plus three pitchers -- right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and George Kontos, plus left-hander Phil Coke.

This would be the depth chart

    Outfield

    Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui

    Melky Cabrera

    Xavier Nady

    Bobby Abreu

    Designated Hitter

either Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui

    Richie Sexson

    Xavier Nady

    First Base

    Jason Giambi or Richie Sexson

    Righties Sexson, Nady

    Switch Hitters Cabrera

    Lefties Damon Matsui Giambi Abreu

I don't see any room for him in New York, sorry! The Yankees don't need to be remembered one of the most controversial ball players to be part of the last team to play at the wonderful and historical Yankee stadium and the Yankees shouldn't ruin such a rich history with this question and controversial topic to be entered forever in history.

  16. Absolutely.

He's got a phenomenal OBP and with Yankee Stadium's short right porch, he could do some real damage. There may be some boo birds, but once he cracks his first walk off homer the fans will be behind him.

He's 70 hits away from 3,000 and after getting left out in the cold all off season up to now, he's definitely hungry for a championship. Even at 42 years old, he would still be the most feared bat in the game.

"We dont want the baggage", "He's a cancer in the clubhouse", "He's a distraction",

Really? First, this all perpetuated by ESPN and second, the NY papers are breaking stories about ARod / Curses / and shared gold underpants, but Bonds would be the distraction?

If I was in charge and Bonds was willing to take the league minimum [which he is and donating to a kid's charity] this would be a done deal already.

Just look at this and other Bonds questions here on YA. They usually get the most answers, because love him or hate him, people cant stop talking about him.

He's an offensive asset. Get off your thumbs Steinbrenner and sign the guy already.

  17. Yeah, it might help them.  But right now the Yankees are doing fine without him so they don't need him.

  18. no
