Question:

Should the children be forced to undergo rigorous education?

Even the small students are required to carry heavy backloads containing about 8 books, 10-15 copies (HW, CW, Rough etc), raincoat/ umbrella, two tiffin boxes, water bottle with water, pencil box, painting kits(really heavy with ink/colour bottles). This is coupled with carrying project works etc, and what not? On an average, children leave for school at 7.30 am and comes back at 4.15 pm - more working hours than a labour can legally be asked to work for. I think, legally, the children can not be forced to undergo such a rigorous education. We need to think on the issue and evolve remedies. Can anybody, especiaaly the authorities in school administration and the parents suggest for any remedial measures?

  1. i am glad you feel this way. Indian education is definetly an information overload. very taxing, and yet doesnt encourage creative thinking. the urban kids have too many books. the rural kids very often dont even have one. the govt. should definetly revamp the whole system. and what is more surprising is that the parents are always looking for ways to make the child smarter then the rest by going for the toughet school around.

  2. Small children should study alphabets and numbers upto 100. No rigorous education , voccational education is necessary.

  3. its true,if u percieve it in that way.there r many stress-free schools

that hav been started like montessori&many more.it wud b hectic if

u say so.but if u take it in that spirit, there is no stress.schools help in the overall development of a child.raincoat &umbrella r just optional !!!!!!

school working hours r no big deal.the child enjoys the entire time spent at school.its not just studies alone there r free times when the child can play.there r co-curicular activities, sports day etc...its such a great time at school.may b the working hours hav 2 b reduced a bit.but i think today most schools have half day working schedule.most of the children love going 2 school&making frends,so "rigorous"is baseless.

  4. Personally I think that the education standards set for kids today, at least in the US, is very lax. Kids are scoring higher while knowing less, because of our wonderful president's program.

  5. My school starts at 7:20 and ends at 2:30. But yes, I agree there must be something done about the school days. Finland has the best school system in the world, and their kids stay in school for the shortest amount of time. Students are carrying way too much weight on their backs as well.
