Should the consequences of Hit By Pitch be changed?

Question

I answered the question that ask what rule you would like to change in the MLb and i said the HBP.

I think the HBP shouldnt be treated as a walk, but rather a walk and a balk.

Where the victim goes to first and the all runners on base advance 90 feet no matter where they are. LIke a runner at third when the guy gets hit, gets to come home and score.

Heres my reasons:

A. Its painful.

B. It could be done intentionally and that itself is Unsportsmanlike Conduct

C. Theres a good chance that the ball would be a wild pitch if the victim was not standing in the way of the ball from the backstop. The runners woulda advanced a majority of the time.

D. It will decrease brawl and fights in the game. Less revengful HBPs.

What do you guys think?

but it caused alfonso soriano to go on the disabled list and carlos quintin got hit in the last 6 consecutive games

It sounds like a good idea and it will make pitchers have better control. Also it will eliminate the usage of intentional HBP's. Good thinking!

i wouldnt like this at all, this is just like the instigator rule in hockey

say team a spikes team b or something like that, how is team b gonna retaliate

this would cause more spikes and collisions at the plate because no would want to hit someone now

This sounds like a great idea.

But, perhaps it wouldn't be so cut and dry.  I think the umpire's discretion would still rule supreme.  Because like others have said, there can be circumstances where this isn't fair.  For example, if a player really is crowding the plate, and moves into a pitch, then the umpire should be able to rule that that does not constitute all the baserunners advancing.

However, I think this would clean up a lot of retaliation and fights in the game, and make it more fair.

You are of course joking.Hitters now crowd the plate so much that they are sometimes over it in their stance.They have taken to wearing protective guards on everything from their elbows to their shins.If they weren't crouching over the plate,they wouldn't get hit with such frequency.Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale both would knock you on your @ss for such an asinine idea.

A balk is illegal act of infeilder decifson the runner.

A. getting hit by ptich or softball or anyball for that matter is painful.

b. thats a judement call you cannot assume just beacuse someone gets hit by a pitch it was intentionally.

C. hpb is a dead ball from the start.

D. no it wont

You make a good point. I think that there would be a huge decline in hit batsmen. It is a part of the game but it can lead to injuries. Soriano is proof. I agree with you.

I disagree cause thats just unfair what if its not intentional and the runner from third scores.
