Should the devils consider raycroft?

when you think about it, raycroft is a young goalie that has proven he could play at the nhl level. if i'm correct, he did win the calder. a few years behind brodeur and goalie training from caron (the goalie coach) and he might be a decent goalie to take over after brodeur retires. he wouldn't be as good but he'd be better than nothing.

  1. Yes, they should. He could be an option for a lot of teams.

Yes, he did win the Calder, but you have to think of when he did. He won it in the "old" NHL.

But, you have to remember, they still have Kevin Weekes to worry about.

Kevin Weekes (my favourite goalie) is too experienced and too good to be a back up in New Jersey. So if they get rid of Kevin Weekes to another team, then Raycroft would be an option.

The only bad part about bringing Raycroft in anywhere is that he still has that contract; he will still make 2.2 million this season. Not many teams want to have that as a burden on thier cap; for a guy who will play maybe 5-10 games, 2.2 is not worth it. A guy like Conklin who may sign for 1-1.5 million, is a more reasonable option. But the Devils are going to go for a goalie who is willing to sign for little money.

Raycroft might be better suited in a place like Atlanta or maybe even Los Angeles, where they have the money and could use a half decent goalie for a backup or a starter.

As for the Devils, a guy like Sebastian Caron seems suitable for them: A guy who is used to backup/little play and would sign for little money.

  2. Sure, he may be a good option down in Lowell.

  3. Raycroft sucks...end of story.

  4. Assuming Raycroft hasn't been scarred for life with the 'old, slow, and incompetent' brigade of defencemen, he will make a competent backup.

He needs a team that is solid all around, has good defencemen, and a change of scenery (he grew up in the Toronto 'burbs, so it's highly likely that playing for the Leafs brought about some pressure).

He took the uber-long benching without saying a word, which says a lot about his character.

  5. i think Conklin would be a better fit in Jersey. they would make a good 1-2 combo.

  6. Well Andrew Raycroft had 1 good year with the Toronto Maple Leafs and when Vesa Toskala came, he played absolutely terrible.. I wouldn't take a chance with him. With him in the net it's like nothing is even there so I'd prefer putting a bag of popcorn on the goal-line rather than him.

Sorry Raycroft but it's what I'd do! =(

  7. yes the devils should so the leafs can get a real goally
