Should the eating area of a restaurant have cameras?

This is kinda funny. I was at a hometown buffet and noticed there was a 360 degrees camera in the eating area and it was out of view of the cash register.

If it was for people stealing food (taking it home)...really...for that???

Maybe a fight, because some people get crazy.

Only thing i can think of is maybe a lawsuit.

It was just funny when I saw it and I'm glad I didn't have food or a drink in my mouth otherwise you know what, but what do you think.

  1. its bcuz ppl take ziploc bags to hometown buffet  and steal food

  2. My first thought was so they can have evidence of anyone  'adding' to their food any foreign body that was not  in there in the first place.

It may reduce complaints and being sued.

  3. I think its a form of invasion of privacy...But they really dont have someone sitting there watching every person of every second...For the most part  its just being taped for reference in case of a disgruntled employee or customer, hold up or..dine and dash customers......But go  ahead...and show them what "SEE Food" is or take that extra egg roll...as long all is quite on the floor..youll miss your 15 minutes of fame.

  4. LOL

the way u put it is funny, but I believe that these cameras are there to provide a proof of any terrorist act in case it happened (God Forbid), any lack of responsibility from the staff, and because some major people (VIP) might be there, to watch them closely and keep them safe.. many reasons, but none as funny as urs, hahhaa

  5. I don't really think that would be necessary. Especially if it's there for the purpose of seeing if customers are stealing food. That's kind of extreme. However if it's there to keep the customers safe from some kind of "Pulp Fiction" style robbery then i suppose it's not a horrible idea. I will say that your idea is probably the most logical one.

  6. Yes stealing may be a factor.& maybe being able to keep a closer eye on the employees. If there were to be any trouble of any kind, that way tey would have a pic for the police.

  7. Yes

  8. I own a restaurant and when you buy cameras from companies they send you at least 6 and you run out of pplaces to put them...thats probably why its there!

  9. it depends.  the closest hometown buffet near my place is in a semi run down neighborhood.  its been  known to have a few hobos roamin round the block.  So i mean if they could eventually catch the guys with the cameras.  however it wouldn't be so classy in other joints.  i mean u wouldnt want to see way out in the open cameras more classy restaurants.  but i guess self serve places like hometown buffets are just trying to protect their establishment.
