  1. if anything the money should be given back to the british public not random poor people all over the world who have contributed nothing to british society. Britain doesn't owe anyone a living.

  2. Presumably, you are not British. Nor are you aware that the British monarchs are not the only monarchs in the world. If you ban one, you have to ban them all - but unless you happen to live in a country ruled by a monarch, you would have no say in whether they stay or whether they go.

  3. First of all: one thing would be to ban them, and another to take their wealth away. Anybody with a certain job gets paid for it until they stop working on that job. The monarchs have done their job and gotten paid for it. When you fire someone, you don't take away whatever they've earned over the years...

The english royal family are nothing more than politicians. Politicians that actually work for the good of thhe people and that are raised since they are little to know how to serve.

Do they do any harm? Do they do any good? They are the representatives of a country without the political presure.

Think about this: politicians get voted into their jobs every so often. The stress that brings makes allot of them do really bad things... The monarchy doesn't have to worry about being revoted and therefore have a more sraightforeward way of doing things( without the blindfold).

Also, the queen of England is a very respected person. She brings more respect with her than most politicians... that's got to say something.

I really don't think they should be banned, but maybe someone else has more compelling arguments...

  4. 1) Why should you steal someone's property just because they happened to be born into royalty? What gives you the right? Envy?

    2) Monarchy is a tradition. This means nothing? The feeling of being rooted in the past, of retaining something from history, that is worthless?

    3) Monarchy is not the tool of oppression it once was. Most monarchs have another kind of power these days, and they are aware of it and use it judicially.

    4) I believe the Queen, and the King of Norway, too, would use their veto right if they saw laws being proposed that were against freedom and democratic principles. As such, they function as a last resort warning alarm, kind of thing.

    5) Royalty of Europe are powerful opinion builders. As such they can focus on worthy causes and draw attention to them. They give their support to organizations like the Red Cross, the campaign against land mines, the work to help children suffering from AIDS, and countless other charities that benefit greatly from the media focus this generates.

    6) Royalty of Europe work for their people. They are fantastic ambassadors and immensely valuable for export industries, tourism, sports, research, the arts, and many other things beneficial to their people and their country.

Conclusion: Throwing over of the tradition and constitution of a country should not be done lightly. I believe that the consequences in this case would be more negative than positive. It would also be rather expensive. So no, I do not think monarchy should be banned.

  5. I take it you are not British.

The entire royal family costs each UK tax payer 60p (US $1.20) a year. A bargain if you think of the number of engagements the Queen goes to, the state visits she has to host not to mention having to put up with a visit from the PM on a weekly basis (Who would want that?). The fact is, is The Queen is our best ambassador and she commands more respect world wide than any US president ever has.

Contrary to popular belief the Queen retains some powers over parliament including the right of withholding the Royal Assent to any bill going through parliament (same as Bush vetoing congress). The Queen would never use these powers, however a president would. It is not the power the Queen has that is important, it is the power she prevents others from having.

  6. Why?  The poor would just waste the money on booze and drugs, or buying designers shoes and fancy cars.

There's a reason why the poor are poor.

  7. yes i think it should be banned i dint think we need on and there wealth makes no odds to me would people really want it ant way

  8. I think so. We live in the 21st Century and the monarchy still exists. I think it's stupid we haven't done anything about it yet.

  9. Let me guess, you are a communist, one of those people who think that there should not be an upper class.

Your philosophy would be welcomed in North Korea, or some other poor communist nation.
