  1. It should, but never will. The average American isn't educated enough to decide a candidate without using party lines.

  2. Wouldn't that be great? Unfortunately not at all practical.  If you think about it I bet you could come up with 100's of reasons why this would not really work.  However, on a practical side I would like to see more political parties gain in number of supporters that would make them more competitive in this process.

  3. That would be fair considering he is to be for the entire country...not just a party representative. They could be a previous member, but once they took office they would not be. Interesting idea.

  4. I feel that parties help to keep politicians somewhat honest. As long as two groups are competing for the public support, they will only toe the line so much before they risk losing the peoples' trust. Also, the other party will always make sure that they are held accountable for their mistakes and misdeeds.

Is the system perfect? No. Would a zero party system work better? Absolutely not.

  5. Oh then we can have a dicator, then no need for parties.

    Like Castro?

  6. Then we would no longer be a Democracy. What are you; a Commie Socialist or a Monarchist?

I must admit that King Obama has a ring to it though. Sounds majestic.

  7. Would it really make a difference? I mean the Justices of the Supreme Court once chosen have a job for life. But that does not stop them from toeing the party line once they are in.

So if a President were not a member of a political party I doubt that they would stop ruling by their particular brand of democracy. Which would subscribe to some political stance taken by some party.

  8. Might as well as the parties are perverted beyond recognition.

    Really, there should just be

    Republicrats and

    Libertarians and

    Independents

  9. YES!

  10. I think washington should be free of political parties. it would force the party voters to actually learn about the people, and not just vote left or right.

Then again thats asking alot of the american people, to you know, actually make an intelligent decision on their own

  11. Smeagol AM, that isn't a new idea, in the far past the president was voted on by popularity vote. The political parties were only visible for Senators and Representatives. It would certainly be better than voting for the one who spent more money to get elected. The country would then have a real say-so about the winner.
