  1. I wish people had more ettiquette full stop!!

  2. The basic rules of social etiquette are already pretty much the same already because etiquette is really just being thoughtful of others feelings and comfort.

Yes there are some that men observe a little more closely but there are some that women observe a little more closely so I really don't think its a big deal.

We should all have the good manners to give up our seat on the bus for an elderly person.  We should all be kind enough not to let a door drop in ANYONES face and we should all say please when we want something, thank you when we receive something and excuse me when we bump into someone by accident.

As for some MAN specific etiquette....if we are out at one of the kids ball games and we're sitting in the bleachers my husband always climbs down first and gives me a hand so I don't trip.  Am I offended by this?  Of course not, he loves me and he's being thoughtful, do I expect it from every man?  No.  But I am impressed if I receive the same consideration from another man.  So as far as social etiquette being the same I think you guys are pretty much off the hook already.  We don't really expect much anymore in terms of special treatment...it's still a pleasant surprise though that we appreciate when it's there.

  3. EDIT: Thanks. Generally, the rules of etiquette are basically the same for men and women ~ how to mingle with others in a polite way, manners, common courtesy and so on.

There are some variables, but as a rule these have become established by common sense (for example social conduct around relieving oneself) or custom (such as the answerer who mentioned men paying for meals).

But like all social interaction, most etiquette can be negotiated by the parties involved, and also tends to relax or become more formal depending on the comapny.

If certain aspects feel unequal, it's important to raise them with your hosts, guests or companions, and discuss ways to even things out.

The most basic etiquette of all is, after all, respect for others and ensuring their comfort.

The rules of social etiquette, like many other social customs, vary tremendously from place to place, even within the one culture.

Which particular non-same rules were concerning you?

    Cheers :-)

  4. of course.

  5. absolutely, makes no difference if your M/F when you need to burp or f**t just do it! not bad manners just good grub! Just no point in sitting there with your eyeballs about to pop out.

  6. It makes sense to me that it SHOULD be the same, but in reality, SOME things are simply not going to change, at least not for me. Manners, for example. I will always open a door for a woman. I will always let a woman go ahead of me, as in, "ladies first". I will always pay for dinner if I ask a woman to accompany me, which also applies to movie and theater tickets.

  7. I think it should be left up to the individual.  I don't think there should be "rules" other than be respectful and polite.

  8. Respect and politeness should govern, if anything. If there is a need for rules, then, yes, they should be the same.

  9. yes, if we're going to have equality of the sexes, there should be no room for double standards

  10. Yes, I would. I don't appreciate that some people consider letting the guy pay for everything without question an essential part of female etiquette. And I don't care if men are "driven" to protect me; that doesn't mean they will.

  11. It depends on the area; for politeness and showing respect to others, it should be the same. But for things like casual s*x standards should be different... there are differences between men and women which shouldn't be ignored simply for the sake of political correctness. Natural male and female qualities should be honoured, for example the male drive to protect women.
