Should a pub/club owner not be able to choose whether his customers can smoke or not? Would give smokers freedom to smoke and non-smokers can go to a smoke free club.

  1. Personally, I don't think the owner of the club/bar should have the right to choose to make it smoke-free or not. Using the logic that patrons can go to a smoke free bar if they do not want to be harmed is like not putting a speed limit on the highway and saying, "well if you want to stay safe, you can't take this route."

I don't know-- I just personally feel it's not fair to put other people's health at risk, especially since a lot of people still don't understand the dangers of second-hand smoke.  There's a lot of things the government does to keep us safe, and this is one of them.

  2. as an asthmatic non smoker, I believe that the weed should be outlawed completely, not only as a sign of third-party respect, but also to save us non-smoking tax/insurance-payers a shed load of cash.

All those who are caught smoking, or even carrying the offencive/toxic substance, should be refused any form of health therapy on the NHS.  This should also apply to those who consume booze, or any other toxic substances!

Smoking/drinking should definitely be banned within 100 metres of any bus stop or other public convenience!

They could also have their driving license revoked, for life!

  3. I've always felt, if the non smokers don't like the smoke in the clubs, either go somewhere else. Or STAY HOME!!!!. Why should honest businessmen lose money because non smokers whine alot? Stay home in your smoke free home. Start your own club there.

  4. Yes, it should be up to the owner to determine the rules for his establishment, and he is free to make those choices of his own beliefs or based upon financial considerations.

From the bars in my town that have banned smoking (it is not banned across the state), they began attracting different types of customers, but the managers have not noticed revenue significantly affected.

Cigarette smoke really bothers me, and I want the freedom to choose whether or not I get lung cancer. If a bar owner decided to allow smoking, I would go to a bar where the owner did not allow it. Fortunately, there are several to choose from.

I won't allow guests to smoke in my house, and if they want to light up they can either step outside or not visit. I don't see why bar management should be any different.

  5. There are public health reasons why smoking is banned in restaurants, bars, and clubs.  The only exemption should be for somebody who would establish a cigar bar where cigar smoking only is permitted.

  6. I think it should be up to the owner as to if they would like to allow smoking in their bar/club. Lift the ban and let owners choose for themselves!  It should be their choice.

  7. "the last thing we want to have to do is walk thru a cloud of smoke to get into a store, restaurant or bar."

So the smoke is bad but alcohol, which is, in and of itself, a toxin not to mention all alcohol has impurities in the form of toxins but its some second hand smoke thats going to kill you, or the big greasy burger, or all your modern electronics that make you so lazy you don't even have to leave your house to get groceries any more? But of course its some second hand smoke thats going to kill us. If you don't like it go elsewhere.... why should I give up my rights!? You people drive me totally nuts. By the way check your facts the EPA study on second hand smoke was done in 1992. And in 1998 a federal court ruled that the report was invalid without enough evidence and ignored their own findings to scare people.

    Edit:

"Using the logic that patrons can go to a smoke free bar if they do not want to be harmed is like not putting a speed limit on the highway and saying, "well if you want to stay safe, you can't take this route." "

First off. There is a big difference between a cigarette and a several thousand pound vehicle.

Second. Sounds like a good idea to me, two words: natural selection. There are a million things that will kill you its part of the world.

And using that logic, I say we kill all dogs as some of them kill people.

My point is, If you can't watch out for yourself on the road get the h**l off the road.

  8. It's absurd to me that the government is allowed to tell a business owner that something perfectly legal can not take place in his/her establishment.  Everyone has the choice to be employed by or give their business to anyone they choose.

  9. .   Yes, it should be.

  10. No.  I say outlaw smoking all together, including public and private places.  Smoking is a vile, disease causing filthy habit and for those of us with lung diseases, the last thing we want to have to do is walk thru a cloud of smoke to get into a store, restaurant or bar.

  11. the owner should be able to chose because it is his club, but smoking is bad for you.
