I know different state has different speed limit on thier major highway, but do you think the speed limit should be raise 10 more mile per hour than it originally is? For example, I-35 South in TX is currently 75 in the daytime, should it be raise to 80 or 85 safely?

  1. I think 75 is fast enough...  you outta come up towards ohio where on the interstate is like 45mph in some places.... Makes me wanna pull my hair out.. I travel up here because my husband works here and it taks about 6 1/2 hours to get back to NC (home) I only wish it was 65mph in som places

  2. depends. even if the speed limit was raised, you would be lucky to be able to do it with the traffic-like in Atlanta, NYC, LA, etc. The speed limit on the highways near me is 70 (fast enough)

  3. Why do you want to raise it?  So gas prices can go up even higher?

  4. I think some interstates could be raised without any modifications.  Some multi-lane divided highways throughout the world have no limits with about the same settings.  However if speed limits are raised, then some automobiles would have to be modified to handle the higher speeds.  Some vehicles cant handle higher speeds as well as others, such as how many speeds are in a transmission, air intake, wheel size, the faster you go the faster the engine goes, thus the more heat it produces.  And traveling at fast speeds for long periods of time will destroy some engines.  Couple that with some people neglecting there automobiles (seen a lot of engine overheats).  So if we want higher speeds, we need a modification of automobiles.

  5. Yes, but Americans are to conservative

  6. If the road is engineered to handle traffic travelling 85 MPH, then if the state wants to raise the speed limit, sure.

Although the U.S. is not the country with the slowest highways....in Korea the speed limit on freeways is 100KPH (62 MPH)!

In Kuwait the speed limit on freeways is 120 KPH (74 MPH) but traffic routinely moves at 170 KPH (105 MPH)!!
