Should the title of a poem in an essay....?

Short poems (ones that don't merit separate book publication) go in quotes--e. g., "The Raven," or "I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died."

Poems that are usually published as a separate book are put in italics, such as _Paradise Lost_ or _The Wasteland._
