God I wish....but we can't even make a law that you have to prove you are who you are with an ID at the ballot box.  So, how could it come to pass that we would check the knowledge?  Damnm good idea though.

I think your idea could be good.  I often wonder why people bother voting when they don't know the candidates.  The voting system does vary a little bit across the globe, for instance, in Australia and other places in the world you get fined for not voting.  That said I think discouraging people from voting in any way shape or form (by this I mean poll taxes, i.d. cards, in-adequate staff at polling places to force people to wait for several hours before voting) is generally a bad idea.  If you want to vote you should be done in half an hour.

you can't get most to vote now. asking them to know what they are voting for would be like.... i can't think of anything so easy. except may national voter i.d cards. whole nother subject not for the ignorant.

Yes. I think there should be a basic test where they have to name all of the candidates on both sides, know their voting records and their platforms.

How about one to run for office in the first place?

I mean for president we could require something equivalent to the GRE or SAT and post the scores. Then we'd have some ojective way of analysing the candidates' abilities.

I wish there was but unfortunately there is not.. This is why Hillary is able to stay in the race due to the ignorant people voting for gender and don't know anything else about her. I've never seen so many people who say they are voting for her which when asked why all they can say is , she is a woman.
