Question:

Should there be a law against driving with cell phones?

Cell phones can cause car wrecks if you aren't paying attention, but then again so can eating or putting on make up while driving. They might be vital in emergencies, but should not talking on them while driving be made into a law?

  1. Not if they have a bluetooth headset. These allow the driver to answer and talk while keeping his hands on the wheel.  These are safer than people eating while they drive.

  2. There already is a law in many states. NY it is illegal. You will get a ticket and pay a fine.

NC there is a law but only for people under the age of 18. Go figure. People over the age of 18 are just as bad as the younger crowd.

How about people driving around with their knee on the wheel while they eat a couple of slices of messy, drippy pizza.

There should be a law against anything that is not driving related that people do while driving.

  3. Yes.  People on phones exhibit the same characteristics as drunks.  This includes 'hands free' phones.

North Carolina passed a law forbidding school bus drivers from using phones in the bus.  Texas bans their use by new drivers.

  4. I live in NJ and we already have a hands-free requirement.

We are allowed to converse with people in the car...I consider that the same distraction...especially if there is more than one person.

I wish all cars would have bluetooth or built-in cell phones that work thru voice commands...the would be best.

When I'm on my headset, I really limit the talk time to a minimum.  I don't do conf-calls or things like that.

There are laws against reading/makeup...etc.  Lumped into "dangerous driving" in some states.

  5. I think we should use a steering wheel.

If you can find a cell phone that I can use instead of the steering wheel, please let me know.

  6. Yes.........................

It is very simple and this is just for teens and yes overall cell phones should be banned.............

Teens claim text messaging and talking on their cell phones is their top distraction while driving in a 2006.

The 2,600 traffic deaths and 330,000 injuries that occurred due to the use of cell phones while driving.

This clearly illustrates that a major problem exists and must be attended to immediately.

  7. i has been done in a few states, including New Jersey where I live.

I agree with it too.  I see way too many people do stupid things because they are not paying attention while on a phone.  It takes one of your hands away so you can't control the car effectively.  Also, when you have to check your blind spots or look for cars at an intersection, its harder to see because there is a phone/arm in your way.

  8. YES. How can you concentrate on driving with that growth on your ear and one hand holding it. I'm just waiting for laws that will make it just as bad as impaired driving.

  9. Yes!  I thought some states had them already.  Maybe it was for teens but I'm pretty sure there are a few laws already.   It should be a national thing.  I don't get why we are so slow at laws to go along with our big technology boom.

  10. It isn't the cell phones that are the problem, it is the lack of attention. People just assume cell phones because they can be distracting but there are some people who can be very alert on their cell while driving.

  11. The law would make it safer for everyone.

But it would be another hit to our economy. the bodyshops would slow down more. less parts ordered. and lot less cars being sold cause noone will be crashing. crashing a car helps the economy. well my economy anyways.
