Should there be a tax for companys that send out junk mail?

I just found out that they are trying to pass a tax for bags in shopping markets. I think that is the most ridiculous thing i have heard by far! don’t you think there should be a tax for companies and businesses that send advertising and junk mail. That is paper being wasted that ends up in the garbage!

Does anybody know how to get this out into the public? Who can be addressed for this issue? If U.S.A is trying to go green, then Junk mail should not be sent at all. There should be an alternative to waiting so much paper.

I believe this is another "DOUBLE-TAXATION", since we already pay tax in our trash bill.

It is all part of a flawed system... Geesh, we are so FU*KED

Without junk mail the u.s. postal system would not have enough revenue to run. Try the 1-888-5OPT-OUT database. Please recycle your junk mail.

Unfortunately marketing and advertising are necessary evils.  I'm not sure that increasing the cost of doing business is wise. That cost will only be passed on to the consumer in our cost of goods.  

Let's face it - they wouldn't do it if it didn't work.  Sign up for a program like Green Dimes. Call the companies that send you stuff and ask them to take you off their list. They actaully would prefer to not waste the money marketing to someone that's not a potential customer anyway.  Don't buy from companies that send junk mail (not very practical since all the grocery stores do it!)  Then be prepared for the fallout when the advertisers find another ingenious and equally eco-heinous way to get in your face.

I think they should get rid of junk mail too...such a waste! As for the bags it may not be such a bad idea because thats just as big of a waste as junk mail! Why dont we do as the europeans do and bring our own bags!?! I think that would be awsome if they got rid of grocery bags altogether and we all brought our own bags like they do in Europe! I bring my own bags to the store and see others doing it too but i wish everyone would do it! Our Mother Earth would be a lot happier!!!
