Should there be a tax on unnecessary plastic?

I notice more and more that whenever there is any sort of event, sporting tournemant, or charity support event, the supermarkets are first out with gimmicky plastic items which are used as marketing tools. This is nothing but useless plastic which will clutter up our environment and is not easy to recycle.

I'm thinking orange troll dolls, plastic smurphs... etcetera...

  1. It depends on how you define "unnecessary".  Almost anything that we make from plastic could be made from metal or wood instead, it would just be much more expensive and not as useful.  Looking around my desk, I see scissors handles, pens, my telephone, and my computer casing are all plastic, but is it "necessary" that they be plastic?  I have a metal pen right next to my cheap plastic ones.  The plastic ones were something like 15 for a dollar, the metal one was $15.

  2. That's actually an awesome idea!  And to think all that c**p is funding China's economy......
