  1. If you had holidays every day of the year, then your nation would be in serious economic trouble in world competition, let alone have the money for national defense.

A better approach is to have holidays that honor people by profession.  For example, have a holiday that honors the people who invented stuff that improves the quality of our civilization.  The days would be devoted to honoring what they did.  It would not be for any one person, like Ghandi, but for everyone whose historical contributions have added to the richness of the nation, culture, quality of life.

Who invented algebra?  Do we know?

Who found the cures to major diseases?

    Who invented indoor plumbing?

Who figured out how to reclaim new land from the sea?

Make lists of what's really useful to modern day civilization, study history whose responsible, have a holiday that honors all those people.  It does not matter what nationality, religion ... we honor what those people have done for humanity.

  2. Would the banks ever be open then?

  3. no. My bank would never be open.
