Question:

Should there be bonus points for pole awards?

I think so, with the changes that took place regarding the Shootout, I say give pole sitters bonus points as incentives to qualify well. What do you think? If you agree, how many points? I say 10 or even 5 since they will probably lead the first lap and get five anyway.

  1. I think they should too. Heck, lets give the pole 5pts, outside pole 4pts then 3rd 3pts,4th 2pts and 5th 1 point, almost like Yahoo fantasy racing awards points for qualifying. Good idea.

  2. I agree with ya since they've changed the shootout that this is a good idea I think that 5 points would be good!

  3. no

  4. I agree.

I also think they should get more points for winning then they do but that's besides the point.

  5. Hey, I like Superdave's idea. That would be cool. But, Winter Glory has a good point too. Maybe no points should be awarded when the field is lined up because of rain during qualifying.

  6. No for me. They aren't really doing the same kind of racing in qualifying so it would make it too different. You can't have someone win 5 points then crash on lap 1 of the race because they cant drive with others around.

But I do belive that the field should be set on points every week.

  7. Maybe 5 points, no more than that.

  8. Yes...

    five points...

and if u win you get extra ten...

  9. I say yes.

I'm tired of the guys in the top 35 showing up and not working on qualifying.  Make the pole worth something meaningful.  NASCAR already made wins worth more trying to get guys to race harder at the end of a race, why not make the start of the race more interesting too.  Think about it, if you win the pole you get 5 points and then you're in a premium spot to lead the first lap and get 5 more points.

  10. YES...... 5 points alot of other forms of racing give points for pole why not NASCAR..... Plus like has ben said before.. it would make qualifying that much more important

  11. I realize I'm in the minority, but I don't think this is a good idea. It seems to me that sometimes polls are won based on the weather at the time the person went out and not how good their car is. Giving points based on one or two laps doesn't seem right to me. The poll winner already gets their pick of pit stops and they get to start out front. I believe this is enough of an advantage. However, I do agree that it would make qualifying more interesting.

  12. The only problem is it wouldn't be fair for those who get the pole based on owners points. We've seen alot of those this season.

  13. or maybe if it rained then have them line up like htey did in IROC where the guy 43 in points starts 1st and the guy who is 1st starts last, makes it more challenging...especially if there running 500 laps

  14. Sorry V.P. have to disagree with you on this one. I don't think points should be awarded. The shootout is just an exhibition race w/ no pts awarded so it should be just for fun/bragging rights or a "test session" for a team. IF NASCAR were to award points for the pole...I do think qualifying would a lot more interesting. But you would have teams being tempted to cheat...underperforming teams putting tricked out setups that would probably get them the pole but then take out 1/2 the field on the first lap. In my opinion, and just an opinion as always, they should never award points....let the drivers earn points while racing.

  15. I have thought that ever since they started the chase format. If a driver can earn bonus points for winning then they should also get bonus points for being the fastest in qualifying. I think 5 points would be fair.

  16. I say yes they should and 5 points is what I would give.

I agree with winter glory, if they have to line up by owner points its not fair to just hand them bonus points. They should only get the points if they earn them, not because of rain.

  17. i think they should give them 5 points for leading the lap accros the line even tho its not realy a lap

  18. I agree totally, even more now that there have been changes to the shootout.  With "impound" races, the top teams think about race set up, and not qualifying.  Make it mean something, give the front row some bonus points.  If not, the races go to impound, and you end up with Nemechek, Carpentier, or Kyle Petty on the pole.........then a big crash on lap 2.

I say 10 points to the pole, 5 to #2 qualifier.
