  1. Yes we need to foster encouragement not only for children with disabilities to try different sports but for all children to.  Especially in the case of children with disabilities to try sports it develops a sense of pride and confidence in one's own abilities instead of focusing on what you can't do.

  2. absolutely. they should be encouraged to live as much of a normal life as their disability allows them to. my two grandchildren are not disabled but they are special needs and we encourage them to be as normal as possible when my grandson who is the worst does something that a child who is not a special needs can do we make a deal out of it and congratulate him on it and that inspires him to try harder to overcome his special needs.

  3. Yes, there should be more encouragement for them to try different sports.

To christina c: We PWDs are normal people who do not try to overcome our Disabilities. We PWDs adapt in living with our Disabilities. Our Disabilities are NOT "special needs" to us PWDs. There are various PWDs (including myself) that consider the term "special needs" to be offensive.

  4. Definitely! My brother has "Pervasive Developmental Disorder in the Autism Spectrum" and he just LOVES doing sports. He does track, basketball, baseball, golf, swimming, and he would do more if he had the time! He makes so many friends. Also my parents meet other parents, which is nice for them to exchange info and just know they aren't the only ones.

  5. All children should be encouraged to try different sports, but they should also be encouraged to not believe they are a failure if they don't find any that they enjoy and are well suited to.

To Christina:  All children have special needs. You seem to think your children require out of the ordinary help but are not disabled - why? Children with disabilites need to learn to take pride in them self and not to be ashamed that they are in fact disabled.
