I was Watching the Olympic swimming earlier and the American Swimmer (Mark something) had won about 5 Golds and is set to win more.

If I was Chinese id be a bit annoyed at this I reckon because one mans achievments now account for half of Americas Gold medals.

Is it fair that one man being the best swimmer in the world can win 5 6 or 7 medals.

Sprinters would never have a chance to win this many and they put in just as much time and training.

Should swimmers only be able to enter one or two races

  1. There are many sports that you can win multiply medals. He has entered all possible events which are each different.

  2. His name is Michael Phelps.  And there used to be restrictions on how many events you could swim, which is why Mark Spitz could only win 7 gold medals in 1972.

And there have been other people that have won a majority of gold medals in one particular sport.  Vitaly Scherbo won 6 gold medals in Men's Gynamstics, including team and individual All-Around events.  Nadia Comaneci took four golds and a bronze in the 1976 Olympics.  Are you gonna go after those two as well?

  3. NO, he should get to win all 8 medals, because without him in the races, the person who WOULD win is fooling themselves to think they're the "best" then.  The olympics is about being the best.

And it's Michael - get out from under the rock you live under.

  4. You realize he's pushing past normal limits to get this many medals, don't you??? Most swimmers only perfect one or two strokes, he's mastered all four of them...and not just the stroke itself but how to control his speed for sprints and long distances.  He worked hard to get where he is today, mostly due to Ian Thorpe's idiotic statement that no man can win 7 or 8 gold medals in one olympic event.  I think he's doing it this time around just to prove that jackass wrong.  You sound more pissd off that USA is leading in the medal count than anything else, when china was heavily favored to win...not to mention you know the core of Team USA is track n field, where they'll bring in a buttload of golds next week.  Not looking so good for the Chinese now is it?   Also, Phelps gets about 54 minutes to one hour of cool down between his heats, then he has to interview with NBC after each race, go pee in a cup and have his blood drawn, he only gets a few minutes of down time each day....some come to the Olympics to have fun and take in the city and the country's culture, Phelps comes to take names and kick azz!!!!!!

  5. no. if you're good, you're good.

  6. "If I was Chinese id be a bit annoyed at this I reckon because one mans achievements now account for half of Americas Gold medals."

I think every time when Michael wins or breaks the world record, the Chinese in the audience were celebrating just as loud as the Americans or any others. How important the medal count is? It probably ranges from extremely important to nat important at all when you conduct a survey. There are people who consider medal count is all that matter in the whole Olympic Games event while others would enjoy the competitions among the world's best athletes. Who's right? Who is wrong? It's just the different prospective of the Great Games.

As for Michael Phelps. He has written history with his achievements. We don't change the rule of play because of someones greatness. I doubt we will see another athletes have a similar performance in any sports any time soon.

  7. Did you just wake up in this world. They have had multi winners in swimming for 50 yrs. What is your Problem? If you want to watch only one winner watch Lawn Bowling.

  8. No because swimming has four strokes and many combinations of events, the rules for swimming in highschool are 4 events and college 6 events.  You get to swim what you qualify for, that's only fair. It's Michael Phelps by the way and he is beating Mark Spitz's record of most medals.

  9. No. And His name is Michael Phelps. Track and Field athletes can win just as many as swimmers can, just look at Carl Lewis.

  10. Runners don't have 4 different ways to run... swimmers have 4 different ways to swim.  They're completely different races requiring perfection in completely different forms.

  11. Why is it not fair?

What's wrong if Michael gets a lot of medal? He earned them. The whole world saw how hard he worked for them.

Is this being called a sore loser?

  12. Theoretically, you are wrong, a runner can do the same thing as Michael, but they would have to be a heck of an athlete, which all the more proves that Michael deserves a lot of credit, not jealousy
