If a person from another country commits a "minor" crime such as shoplifting be deported if they served their time. Case in point a man commited a crime back in 92, he was sentenced 18 months, he served his time and now 2008 they want to deport him. Since his release from prison he has become a minister. Should he be deported after all this time??

  1. I agree with Maya but there's probably more to it than meets the eye...chances are he does not have full citizenship..

  2. Crime has no time limits. 6 years or 60 should make no difference.

  3. This seems to be one of those cases lawyers make the big bucks off of ..........

Must be why the INS has an appeals process because this is more of a legal issue  than a quick fix answer you can get on a message board.

  4. What part of illegal dont you understand?  He should have a good time preaching in his country of origin.  Since he got religion, why did he not go do the right thing and become a citizen?

  5. Unfortunately, deportation of a non-citizen is a legal matter, not a moral matter.  Even if a person is "rehabilitated" and has served their sentence, any country has the legal right to deport.

This is because law is not based on ethics.

  6. If someone is here illegally they should be deported for committing that crime. Committing two crimes should absolutely get him deported.

  7. Deportation should be carried out immediately after time is served or else you have problems like this. No easy answers to this one.

  8. Not if he is a citizen of this country. if he is here conditionally, then yes, he should be deported.
