Question:

Should this boxing section have its own Answers of the Year like boxing has Fighter of the Year?

Fighter of the year/Answerer of the year: our first and second year would definitely have been Santanna D

Comeback Fighter/Answerer of the Year? Many candidates would qualify as several have returned recently or have rebuilt theirselves after suspensions.

Rookie of the Year? A whole new generation has come and taken the section to a new level

Round of the year/Question of the year:

A front runner may be Ron B with "Does anyone else hate to answer a great boxing question after a few of the regulars have?" he has 8 stars and 22 answers so far seems everyone has a good response so far

There's probably a ton of other categories that might be fun to play around with.

  1. Great question and yes I agree that the late great Santana D would have swept just about all the awards as he was a mountain of boxing knowledge that we may never see on here again with all due respect to many of the boxing experts I have the honor and priviledge fo sharing this forum with both old timers and newer guys.  I like your idea a lot and would be a lot of fun too.  I also agree with Ron B's question for being the question of the year.  I have so much fun reading all the great questions (like this one) and answers on here from the regulars like yourself, ACEMAN, blogbaba, celtic brawler, Devon, maurice, galactus, Brent, elmer fuddstein and many more on here.  I have learned so much just reading a lot of the answers on here and it's greatly appreciated too.  Like blogbaba said earlier, count me in.

  2. No, because people will create different account (it take about 2 minutes to create an account) and vote for their answer.

  3. heck man..........this is how much i think of this question...........i'm nominating it for Question of the year!!!    Seriously man..........that sounds great if we could pull it off.............i'm just a new guy trying to add a bit if I can but with you and a few of the guys that have been around a bit behind this I think it could work out.............at the very least you probably have the most unique idea to hit this board in a long time.................I can't wait to hear how it goes..........I think it's a great idea man...........just let me know if I can help out in anyway to get this thing up and runnin(just email me and i'll get back to you as soon as I can)..............once again man..........I can't state how much I think of this idea.

wish i would've discovered this board a while back so I could've seen Santana D in action........i'm always seeing his name brought up in this section.

  4. Yes, sounds very rewarding.

    Way to Go mrraraavis!!!

  5. I starred Ron B's question myself it was an excellent one.

I like the idea.  Just thinking of categories to honor new contributors would be a blast.  Maybe an unofficial bronze, silver and gold label that changes from week to week or month to month for the guys who deserve recognition, but  aren't on Yahoo's top ten list yet.

Given time there are at least a dozen contributors who are easily worthy of recognition and will eventually make that silly list all these kids value so highly.  Consistency tends to build a fan base, and I find myself looking forward to ACEMAN, Woody or toughguys answers almost as much as I enjoy answering the questions myself.

I give them my vote for the first unofficial Gold, Silver & Bronze as the current best on the site, and look forward to the other answers on the subject.

As for the cheaters, it doesn't matter because quality always rises above the pettiness of the trolls.  In fact we should have one of the categories be "TROLL" of the week or year, in recognition of their efforts to destroy the decency and integrity of the rest of the site.  The guy who created a duplicate "Smitty" avatar and pretended to be a g*y Smitty a while back was funny, even if Smitty didn't laugh, and recently the guy who used the "hot blond" photo for an avatar would be in the running as well.  Such effort, however misplaced should be acknowledged.

Count me in, I want to see where this idea of yours goes.  I just hope it doesn't do the opposite of what you intend, and decrease the talk about boxing.  The Yahoo boxing site is first and foremost a boxing on the site.  The non boxing aspects of this site are usually a distraction to serious boxing fans and it might not fly with them.

  6. This is actually a great idea! I say we should go ahead and give it a shot. Whats the worst that can happen, it doesn't work?
