Should this person be arrested for dog abuse?

I found out my friend feeds her puppy pedigree puppy chow....is that not wrong....It isn't healthy...people like her shouldn't have a dog

you just tell your friend thats its not healthy because not everyone knows that.

atleast the dog is getting fed..

just tell her about the dog foood and how its not good for the puppy.

While it isn't what I would choose to feed my dog.. please consider:

All over the world there are dogs that eat less healthy food and dogs who are starving.

No, she should not be arrested for dog abuse any more than someone who feeds their child hot dogs and Kraft Mac N Cheese should be arrested.

No. I'm more worried about the people who don't feed their dog at all, abuses them, hits them, kicks them, throws them against things, leaves them out back when no social time with the family, refuses vet visits when they dangerously need it, etc.

OMG!!! LOL!!!  The dog food police are here.  Does she take her dog to the park too?  You know all those nasty diseases, strange dogs and such.  Sweetheart there are worse things that a dog owner can do to abuse their dogs... LIKE NOT FEED THEM!  Get a grip.  Your friend is caring for her dog the way that she sees fit.  Just because you don't agree with want she's feeding doesn't make her an abusive dog owner.

this is not animal abuse!

some people just can't afford $30 for a bag of food each 2 weeks

i use Purina:Kibbles 'n' Bits for my moms dog and he turned out fine (he is already 6 with no health problems ha)

so this is nowhere near animal abuse

animal abuse is when you hit your dog because it barks, don't feed it at all etc.

~ Arrested, no but I do agree that people that can't afford to feed a quality diet should not have a dog.  There should be some level of research and standards for what you subject your dog to and anything that comes from the grocery store is cruel to a dog.  To me, the same as not being fed.  Starving or diabetes both are major health concerns that the owner has inflected on the dog.

Does she know that Pedigree Puppy Chow isn't healthy? If she doesn't, gently tell her that it isn't healthy for her and suggest that she switch to another brand.

Wow. Don't you feel you're being a little harsh and over-dramatic? If you think that should result in your friend being arrested, what do you think of people who beat and starve their dogs? That's a heck of a lot worse than feeding a dog crappy food. If that is equal to arrest, would beating and starving a dog be equal to execution of the owner?

Not everyone knows about the ingredients in dog food. Not everyone knows how to choose a high quality dog food. Just because you do doesn't mean your friend does. I'd rather someone feed their dog Pedigree than starve their dog, wouldn't you?

Instead of bashing your so-called "friend", why don't you try educating her. Tell her that Pedigree is not a good dog food, and you're willing to help her find another dog food that will be better for her puppy.

Hm. People like her shouldn't have a dog? If she treats her puppy well, despite the brand of food she feeds her pup, she deserves to have a dog. Who are you to say she doesn't deserve to own a dog? What gives you the right?

No way. Although WE know that Pedigree isn't a good food, she may not know that. and some people can not afford the premium foods that a lot of us feed our pets.

There are worse things people put their pets through than what they are being fed.

i feed canidae but have fed beneful in the past...

i think you are being a little too harsh on your friend...

you should maybe tell her that there are better foods for dogs out there and educate her

and no she is not abusing the dog - as long as the dog has food, water, shelter, exercise and plenty of love...she is not abusing the dog
