Before, in this group, I asked the following question: "When African-Americans move into a white neighborhood, does the property value go down?" The reason I asked this question was a Socratic one: I simply wanted to know if it is true. I have certainly heard other people say this. In fact, I've heard many people say it. My own parents said this to me in relation to the reason why we left my boyhood neighborhood, where I had so many happy memories. But maybe my parents were wrong. Maybe everybody who says that is wrong. I don't know, I've never experienced it first hand, and I was too young at the time my father made this statement to know if he was right. So what's wrong with asking this question? If it's wrong, I need to know. If it's true, then we need to ask ourselves, as a country, *why* it's true. Because if it's true, then we have work to do. We need to have honest dialogue to find the root of the problem. Is it better to stick our head in the sand?
