Should trout in artificial ponds be fed during the winter?

We have a very large, lined, pond with 175 trout that were fed everyday during the summer, there is not enough natural habitat to sustain them. Should they be fed during the winter when water temps are below 45 and their metabolism slows, or do they need to be continuously fed since that is what they are used to? What is best for both FISH and POND health?

You should continue to feed them, but only every three days or so. Fish go into a soft of suspended animation during very cold months, even trout who LOVE cold water. As their metabolism slows, so does their need for food.

As far as pond health is concerned, keep all pumps operational at all times and keep them clean as usuall. I don't know if you have a problem with ice in your area, but if so, insure the surface does not freeze over so oxygen can still move into the water.

If they don't have food because you stocked a man-made pond with trout...then YES, you should feed...or they will die right?
