  1. players get penalized for doing the wrong thing and so should umpires.

One blatant wrong decision and they should be suspended for a week..

  2. Lets face it who in their right mind would be an umpire they are ridiculed every time they get on the field somebody is always  looking for the wrong decisions  to  blame them for their teams losses it is a hard job.

  3. ok sure, I agree 100%!

but at the same time, lets fine the players $200 for kicking the ball out on the full, $250 for kicking a behind from 20m directly in front and $500 for dropping a sitter of a mark!

The AFL list for umpiring is very compeitive. If someone was to do a c**p job, then there are plenty of other umpires to step up to the plate.

we all make mistakes, we are all human. unless you want AFL to turn into the duration of a cricket match with video umpires and stuff like that, well good lcuk trying to convince the rest of Australia to follow your lead!

  4. ok im actually a bit scared to answer this question because last time we collingwood supporters answered a question we were told to stop whinging and to get over it...

hmmm i think it depends on what the wrong call was and the effects it caused.

  5. I think they should be put in jail for the duration of the rest of the season and let the fans take over (well fit fans!!).

  6. look mate im a tigers supporter and against the roos rnd2 you maybe have seen an obvious push in the back from shannon grant to jake king which wasnt called. i was angry but umpires getting fined is ridiculous.

  7. Everyone is human and they make mistakes just like us.

I think the umpires panel look for consistency in the decisions the umpires make during the game. They will allow some leniency because they cant get every decision right.

As for getting fined, i think that's not necessary.

  8. I don't put the blame to umpires but to the rules committee for the constant rule changes and the way the umpires advisors have told the umpires to interpret these rules.

  9. no i dont think so, they are only Human and are NOT PERFECT!!! ..and both sides seem to get their share of good decisions...well it works that way in the Cricket........:)

  10. Yeah good call, they have lost games for clubs before and should be made to explain their inconsistencies. Watching Friday nights game I reckon the Pies were hard done by, there were some terrible, soft decisions made against them in the last quarter.

  11. of coarse of coarse

  12. i dont think that would be very fair considering they cant see everything.

just like netball we get taken off the court if we back chat the umpires because they cant see everything

  13. they should be droped

  14. there's no system to make umpires responsible for what they do, and that's the major problem.

    how about

*take off the rule that says nobody can criticise umpires

*have a public vote for umpire of the week(the best one)and demote or sack anyone who doesn't get that vote at least three times a season.

*have a fourth umpire on video who critiques decisions and refers doubtful judgment to a tribunal whose results are public?

  15. The AFL are trying to recruit more umpires to the game. But this does not mean we have to accept mediocrity.

However, a wrong decision can be classified as either making a wrong call or not making a call at all. Therefore they are doomed if they do and they are doomed if they don't.

There are also several umpires on the ground therefore decisions are not always consistent depending on the interpretation of each umpire.

Umpires are there to implement the law. We should also look at the law makers and make them accountable as well.

In the mean time, I would like to see the umpire making consistent decisions. How can you have consistency when there are several umpires on the ground?

  16. first of all, no i dont think they should be fined

i think being dropped is enough

but one thing i think they should do is, instead of fining players and coaches when they point out a bad decision (that like other posters have said, have cost teams games), once a week the umpires should front the media and any issues can be sorted out then.

  17. they are only human. give them a break. they do a great job. so what if that make a bad decision every now and again. we see players that get paid more to play than umpires and they make alot more game costing decisions and most of them dont get dropped. if they did melbourne wouldnt exist

  18. I think that umpires should be punished for the 'shockers' by that i mean the decisions that make headlines for the rest of the week. This is because obviously umpires will make mistakes every now and then but the really bad ones need to be punished.

However i think they should do this by introducing a tribunal following the same system that the players have to face with various reprimands for various offenses and a point system that means umpires who are consistently bad receive more severe penalties. Clearly the umpire should have a chance to defend themselves or accept the penalty as the AFL players do. Reports should be made by Captains, Coaches, Club Presidents and the match review panel.

  19. No. they don't get paid anywhere near as much as players do and, seriously, would you expect players to pay a fine for their clangers?

  20. NO!  no one is perfect
