  1. no.unison are representing thousands of workers from all walks of life who pay their union dues in times of trouble.it sounds like it is ok for the BBC/government to award themselves huge pay rises but not the workforce.everytime we ask for a DECENT pay ris Gordon says no because it will push up inflation.bollcks to inflation i say, give me my money you owe us and backdated payment from last years settlement.lets not forget,we pay all MPs do do the work for us not take the p**s out of us.

  2. I work for a council and I have mixed feelings about the strike because I don't feel it will acheive any increase on the 2.45% for all workers and 3.3% for lower paid staff.

Until the announcement today that strikers would be paid by the union their FULL wages and Pension contributions this action had, in my office anyway, received very little support.

I have to say that the number of staff who have suddenly decided to strike - apparently seeing it as 2 paid days off - has left me feeling that this is a bit immoral and does not feel particularly legal, although apparently it is. (see link) I was also worried that the first answer I got was "take the money".

It's made me feel a bit like they are trying to buy my support and I don't like that feeling.

Will they succeed - I doubt it the Government will not give in and we'll still be in the same place in 6 months time and it isn't as if any other workers are being offered more in non-pubic sectors.

It's left a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth and I have now decided to work - it is no longer about principle it is about bribery.

EDIT - the GMB have approved this pay offer and are recommending acceptance to their members.

  3. i think people should be more realistic in what they can expect by way of a pay increase

wake up call for everyone including large unions who think they can hold companies to ransom

  4. Yes. Especially since their pay rise will add to our tax burden.

  5. Absolutely! The Public Sector, bloated as it is, are the last ones that we should be giving rises to. Unsackable, compulsory redundancy unknown, gold plated pensions, and a nice steady carry on.

Any pay rises should be matched by cuts in staff, because some of what they do is unnecessary. Otherwise, your taxes will go up even more.

  6. We would all be better off if we had a union to fight our cause and rally the people.  This is a rich country with too much waste by the government.

The unions stand up for the people they represent.

  7. the payrise is fixed for three years, whereas most places have a change in the pay each year to reflect the state of the economy.

its as if the government has foreseen this whole credit crunch thing and decided to slap us with 2% for three years cos thatll keep them from having to fork out any more. keep in mind that the people who decided this are paid a fortune, get a second home, and recently demanded a ten grand pay rise.

if other unions arent happy with their pay, they should do something about it too.
