  1. Yes, I believe that university students should pay all of the tuition fees.  They have to or they get dropped from their classes.  Most universities have some sort of payment plan.

Now, if you are asking if they should repay their student loans that may cover tuition, housing and other costs, that is a yes as well.

  2. Yes of course they should!

I'm in Australia and we have a system where we can go to uni for 'free' but when we get a job and start earning over a certain amount our fees start to be taken out of our pay on top of tax.

I think this system is good and really does give everyone an equal opportunity to get a higher education.

  3. I think the key is to provide bursaries and more flexible financial arrangements to students so that more young people can choose to attend university in the first place. Doing away with financial assistance entirely and forcing students to pay high tuition fees simply makes university less attainable; surely we should be trying to narrow the pay gap between graduates and non-graduates by promoting further education to all rather than restricting it to only those from wealthy families who can afford fees? Who does that serve?

If all students had to pay their own tuition, far fewer would attend university in the first place. Many young people from less privileged backgrounds would never break away from the cycle of underachievement. Society would lose out because fewer graduates = lower education levels within the population = fewer persons to participate in a high-skilled labour market = no incentive for high-skilled employment sectors to invest in areas with few graduates = less overall benefit for the rest of us as a whole. Don't forget that we all benefit from living in a society with a high ratio of university-educated men and women. University graduates are our doctors, teachers, social workers, vets, nurses, politicians, care workers and a whole host of other invaluable people.
