Question:

Should vegans take a soy protein supplement?

I've been vegan for almost four years now and I'm always tired all the time. I take a vegan multi-vitamin, but while looking up ideas for smoothies online I read a lot of recipes with vegan soy protein powder added in. Is that something that fellow vegans would recommend? Can a lack of protein in my diet be to blame for making me tired? I get enough sleep at night, but after 8 hours of being awake I am tired enough for a nap. LOL

  1. yes u should

  2. no, soy isn't healthy for you,

it has an ingredient in it, that actually stops your body from getting that protien, thats the same with tofu,

you should go with eating things full of protien, like eggs, nuts and things. :)

  3. if you need to get help you would do good to take a complete b vitamin including b 6 and b 12.

these are good for you and help to maintain nerves. get lot of whole grain breads wheat if you can stand it and if you add nuts such as peanut butter to the bread you will be getting a complete protien

    principle

beans + Grains = complete protien

Grains + Nuts = compelte protien

nuts or seeds + beans = complete protien

so if you mix and match such as soy milk and rice for breakfast you have a complete protien

if you use (roasted) soy nuts and sunflower seeds you have a complete protien. there are times that even this does not help the tired feeling, try going to bed before 10 pm and drinking 6 - 8 glasses of water per day. no not any soda or juice just plain water distilled if not good water at the spicket.

it can be the thyroid or liver function so just start with a complete b vitamin and complete protien first and if not it is time to find out what the problem myight be but water flushes the poisons out and also nutralizes the power plants in you body. so get rid of the waist and then see if that does not make more of a difference. also after you get that far try exercise if you are not exercising 20 minutes per day this will increase the ability to have energy. do not over do it but moderate walk daily would make a difference.

  4. B Vitamins. They help convert calories into energy quicker. I'm pretty sure you can only get vitamin B-12 from animals... though if you take b-complex vitamins or b-12 alone as a suppliment you should be getting more into your body. I'd try that.

  5. Well, to your question, I say yes and no. You don't need a supplement, but you do need to increase your intake of protien. Prtien is the source of energy, and without it, you're left off feeling tired all the time, as you mentioned. By not eating animal productsm such as meat and eggs, you're missing out on some protien.

Soy is a source of protien for vegans, as well as other sources. Nuts, rice, lentils, potatoes, chick peas, seeds and grains ae also great places to get protien, so try eating more of those foods. You should notice an increase in energy due to the consumption of more protien.

  6. No. If you are vegan and not getting enough protein that's your fault. There are many sources. If your life is such a whirlwind that somehow you're vegan but can't eat right (odd), than a supplement is necessary.

  7. Protein is a very very important nutrient that vegetarians and vegans risk missing. You should take a protein supplement in addition to your vitamin. You will be much healthier.

  8. yes if you don't your chin will start to slack
