Question:

Should vendors of fuels be required to declare a calorific value?

Biofuels and biofuel blends are beginning to enter the market place. These fuels have lower calorific values than petroleum based fuels and give significantly lower miles per gallon. To ensure a level playing field and so that the customer knows where he is, should filling stations now be required to declare the calorific value of the fuels they are selling?

  1. Wouldn't that be the same as octanes? they already do.

  2. The fuels have to be the correct cv. If not the engine will behave erratically and the petrol suppliers have to pay the penalty as happened recently with Tesco garages. Quality control inspectors can do on the spot checks.

  3. I believe that they should declare the calorific value of the fuel that way people know what they are getting and they will know how it rates compared to other fuels /places. I think this is  a great idea and hopefully someday it will be implemented.

  4. that's great thinking!

    it will never happen though.

the "greenies" that they have fooled into thinking that eco-fuels are a modern miracle will have hard proof they are wrong.

but then again, that doesn't stop them from parroting the non-sense the read.

  5. Good idea. Also the PRICE should be based on calorific value.

  6. No... Cost of stuff is high enough now with adding more burdensum regulations

  7. It will have to conform to some standards or other.
