  1. It should be a right.  Privileges are granted so the haves could keep the have nots from ever having a say.  That's just one of the problems with slavery.

  2. Depends on the country:  In Australia it is compulsory for all citizens 18 and over, with only a few exceptions.  That applies for local, State and Federal elections.  If we do not vote, we have to provide a really good reason or pay a fine!

  3. An illusion.

  4. Voting is a privilege that should be reserved for contributing members of society.

Aristotle wrote of the demise of democracies when the voters learn they can raid the public treasury for their own enrichment.

  5. Right . There is a possibility that Solar Power Socialism  could help Society and end Global Warming ensure survival of humanity. This in response to cynicism of an answer. With voting as a right survival is more certain.

  6. It should be a right - as should free thought - and free information.

Sadly, neither is a right (at the moment).

Soren Kirkagard said - People demand freedom of speach, in exchange for the freedom of thought they rarely use.

In Transformers the parents say at the end (during the credits) "The government would tell us... thats how we know we live in a free country, theres no secrets"

The people should not be allowed to vote, because they do not know (are not allowed to know) all of the information.

The people cannot make informed decisions unless they know the whole story, see how easily you can be brain washed by the illustration below.

Listen to this story, and see what conclusion you come to.

A man left home, he ran a little bit and turned left, he ran a little more and turned left again, he ran a little more and turned left again then ran home, where he was met with two masked men.

How about this now same words, but I'll illustrate.

A man left home(shows a picture of a baseball base - home base), he ran a little bit and turned left(picture of first base), he ran a little more and turned left again(picture of second base), he ran a little more and turned left again(picture of 3rd base) then he ran home, where he was met with two masked men.(umpire and catcher)

See how easy it was for you to get the wrong idea, when I told you all the facts... ?

If voters aren't told the real story, but most of the story, they will not be able to understand the facts, and therefore, should not be allowed to vote, because they will not be able to understand the issues at hand.

    Should it be a right?

Yes, but only if real information is a right, and if intelligence is a right - that we all take advantage of (use).

  7. If it's to be a privilege should it be limited to only those that can spell privilege????

It should be a right and not only that it is your civic duty.

  8. Learn to spell - it's privilege.

To answer - it's already somewhat of a privilege anyway. You have to be a certain age, registered to vote and have no felony convictions.

  9. Given the fact of the Sup. Ct.'s decision in Bush v. Gore, voting should now be thought of as a waste of time.

  10. In the US, voting is a right, but you can lose it under certain circumstances such as being convicted of a felony in some states.

  11. It is a right.  But it is a privilege that we have that right.

  12. Actually, it's both.
