Experience alone neither determines who wins, nor who would make a good President.

In 1980, Carter was more experienced than Reagan. Reagan won.

In 1992, Bush the Elder was more experienced than Clinton. Clinton won.

In 2000, Gore was more experienced than W.

W. won.

James Buchanan was one of the most experienced men ever elected. He was also one of our worst Presidents. Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln (widely considered to be one of our best) has a mere 2 years experience in the House of Representatives. In the 1840's! He ran on his oratory, not experience, after having been out of politics for over a decade.
