Question:

Should we add a third cat in this situation?

I have a 4 year old female cat (dominant personality) and a 1 year old female (we adopted her a month ago). They get along pretty well and play together, but they are still adapting to each other. Recently we found another sweet kitten (another female, very friendly) and we are tempted. We have a lot to think about because we don't want to stress out our older cat too much, but they might all have fun together. Thoughts? Cat lovers only please.

  1. I read once that the best time to introduce a new cat is when your current cat is under four years old. I think you'd be doing a nice thing for this kitten to bring her into your home, but you do also need to think about the cost and the time and attention that three cats will require. Don't get more cats than you can handle because you might regret it later. I think you should bring this new kitten in, because that's what I would do. I would have twenty cats right now if I could afford it.

  2. I have 6 cats so I know how it can go with introducing a new cat. It seems like it might be too much since its only been a month. Maybe wait a couple more months before adopting a new kitten. But your older cat is only 4 (which is still young) so it might be ok. It is hard because sometimes cats get along and some just attack eachother constantly.

  3. New feline relationships equal time and patience.  But almost always the cats work everything out just fine.
